Girona’s awful run continued in late January, with a 2-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano where they were ahead for 80 minutes, Bryan Gil finding the net but then conceded two late goals.

Another loss was recorded during the mid-week Champions League action at home against Arsenal 2-1 where once again Girona gained an early lead through Arnaut Groeneveld.

Las Palmas also had disappointing results throughout January, having lost three of their last four matches across competitions and dropped down to 15th place in La Liga as a consequence.

Los Amarillos were knocked out from the Spanish Cup by a tier-two side Elche 4-0 in early January, followed by two consecutive La Liga defeats against Getafe 2-1 and Real Madrid 4-1.
