Sevilla v Alaves Preview & Tips
Sevilla host Alaves at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan as they look to wrap up their season with a win. A point will guarantee a place in the Europa League with Alaves pushing for a top 10 finish.
Sevilla played out an enthralling 2-2 draw away at Real Betis last time out. Goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Simon Kjaer cancelled out strikes from Marc Bartra and Loren Moron to earn the Andalusian side a point.
Joaquin Caparros’ side are unbeaten in their last three topflight matches including a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid. They currently sit seventh on the table with 55 points.
Los Rojiblancos early season objective was to finish in the Champions League places but they must now salvage what is left of an underwhelming season with Europa League football next term.
Ben Yedder should be restored to the starting line-up after coming off the bench to score at Betis. The striker is expected to replace Sandro Ramirez who has failed to find the back of the net since his return to Spain in January.
Alaves claimed an impressive 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao last weekend. John Guidetti, Munir El Haddadi and Ibai Gomez were all on the score-sheet as the Basque club climbed to 12th on the table with 47 points.
Babazorros El Glorioso are still targeting a top half finish having won five of their last nine matches. They are just two points off 10th place Real Sociedad, who travel to Barcelona on the final day of the season.
Munir has arguably been Alaves’ best player this season. The former Barcelona man has netted 10 times so far and will be hoping to add to his tally when they travel to Sevilla.
Manager Albelardo Fernandez has a fully fit squad to pick from meaning Guidetti and Munir should continue their partnership up front, with Guillermo Maripan and Victor Laguardia also expected to start in defence.
Results have been evenly split between both sides in recent times with three wins apiece in their last seven matches. However, Alaves won the reverse fixture 1-0 thanks to Manu Garcia’s second half strike.
Alaves often adopt a conservative approach when they travel and always look to hit on the break with the Munir and Guidetti. But they lack the strength in defence to hold out the likes of out Ben Yedder, Joaquin Corea and Luis Muriel.
- Sevilla have won 11 of their last 19 home matches (La Liga).
- Sevilla have scored in 17 of their last 19 home matches (La Liga).
- Sevilla have won 5 of their 6 home games against Alaves (All Competitions).
- Alaves have lost 12 of their 21 away matches this season (All Competitions).
For all of Alaves’ recent good form, they seem to come undone whenever they face Sevilla. The Andalusians are solid at home and should see out a comfortable win.
Best Bet: Sevilla to win and both teams to score at 2.60
