Sevilla vs Las Palmas Preview

Sevilla are in relegation danger, but I expect them to improve under new manager Joaquin Caparros. Las Palmas have lost their last three matches, so a home win is my top prediction for this clash.

Stats

  • Sevilla have won 8 of their last 9 matches against Las Palmas.
  • Las Palmas have lost their last 3 matches.

HTH

Sevilla have an 8-3 advantage against Las Palmas with 5 draws in 16 matches.

They last met in August, the game ending in a 2-2 draw.

Sevilla Form

Sevilla appointed Joaquin Caparros as manager in mid-April, but they have failed to end their drought under his leadership. They are currently on an eight-game winless run and sit just four points above the relegation zone.

Los Rojiblancos won a point in Caparros’ debut against Alaves 1-1 at home (Peque Fernandez on target), but then lost to Osasuna 1-0 in Pamplona.

Sevilla started this month with a 2-2 home draw against another relegation candidate Leganes, while last weekend’s duel against Celta in Vigo was lost 3-2. Kike Salas appeared on the scoresheet on both occasions.

Las Palmas Form

Las Palmas’ chances of avoiding relegation are not looking good, sitting inside the red zone with just 32 points after 35 rounds, three points short of safety.

Los Amarillos had a great run in mid-April where they beat Getafe 3-1 and Atletico Madrid 1-0, but they have lost three games in a row since then.

That negative run started with a 1-0 loss to Athletic in Bilbao, followed by a thriller 3-2 home loss against Valencia. Last weekend, Las Palmas were beaten at home by Rayo Vallecano 1-0.

Team News

Sevilla remain without Tanguy Nianzou, Ruben Vargas and Akor Adams due to injury. Djibril Sow and Albert Sambi Lokonga are also fitness doubts after missing the match against Celta. Jose Angel Carmona returns from suspension and is available for selection.

Las Palmas are still without Kirian Rodriguez, who is sidelined following a cancer relapse, while Scott McKenna is a major doubt.

Predicted Starting Lineups

Sevilla: Nyland, Carmona, Bade, Gudelj, Salas, Suso, Agoume, Saul, Pedrosa, Lukebakio, Romero

Las Palmas: Horkas, Rozada, Suarez, Herzog, Marmol, J Munoz, Essugo, Bajcetic, Moleiro, McBurnie, Sandro

Verdict

Both sides have struggled in recent weeks, but Sevilla have the quality and experience advantage. They’ve beaten Las Palmas in eight of their last nine meetings, so a home win is the best bet.
