Blackburn vs Preston Predictions

A fiesty Lancashire derby awaits on Friday in the Championship. It could be tense and tight with both sides delivering for under 2.5 goals backers of late. That is the best bet, while Blackburn can extend Preston's poor recent run away from home.

  • Blackburn have won 2 of their last 3 matches (Championship).
  • Blackburn have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 6 matches (all competitions).
  • Preston have lost 3 of their last 4 away matches (all competitions).
  • Preston have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 matches (all competitions).
  • Preston have failed to score in 2 of their last 3 away matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Preston have the edge over their Lancastrian counterparts in recent history - winning five of the last nine meetings between these sides since 2015. Blackburn have just two wins to their name in that time, with two draws.

The last time these sides met it was Blackburn who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in November. The goals came from Adam Armstrong, Ben Brereton and Tyrhys Dolan.

Blackburn Form

Blackburn come into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss away at QPR, a defeat which ended their mini resurgence in recent weeks.

Rovers had moved back into the play-off mix by winning their previous two games prior to the defeat at Loftus Road.

Tony Mowbray's side were 1-0 winners at Middlesbrough before triumphing by the same scoreline at home to Luton.

Blackburn’s home form has been impressive. The only team to leave Ewood Park with three points in the Championship in the last three months is league leaders Norwich.

Blackburn Team News

Centre-backs Daniel Ayala, Scott Wharton and Derrick Williams all remain sidelined.

Midfielders Bradley Johnson and Joe Rankin-Costello are also out for Blackburn.

On-loan left-back Barry Douglas missed the defeat at QPR, but could come return for Friday’s clash.

Midfielder Bradley Dack has recently returned to the squad after long term injury and is vying for a starting spot.

Preston Form

Preston have recorded just one win in their last six matches in the Championship to lose ground in the race for the play-offs and drop to 12th place.

Alex Neil's side were beaten 2-1 by relegation-threatened Rotherham last time out. It was a second straight loss after going down 1-0 at another of the strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.

Ched Evans' goal was nothing more than a consolation for Preston after Joe Rafferty put through his own net and Benjamin Wiles doubled Rotherham's lead.

Preston had been strong away from home, picking up 22 points on the road. But they have lost three of the lost four on the road in all competitions.

Preston Team News

Midfielder Alan Browne missed the defeat to Rotherham and is also a doubt for Friday night.

Goalkeeper Declan Rudd, defender Patrick Bauer and forward Louis Moult all remain sidelined.

Everton loanee Anthony Gordon should retain his place after joining for the remainder of the season. Ched Evans is likely to continue upfront after netting against Rotherham.
