Huddersfield vs Cardiff Preview, Predictions and Betting Tips

It is a clash of poor defences as Huddersfield host Cardiff in an English Championship fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium. Both teams have struggled to keep things tight at the back and are set to serve up goals on Wednesday.

Huddersfield Form

Huddersfield are coming off a 2-0 home victory against QPR in their previous Championship fixture. Elias Kachunga opened the scoring while Steve Mounie added the second from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

The Terriers have impressed at home and are unbeaten in 10 of their last 12 matches. Danny Cowley’s men head into Wednesday’s match with just three clean sheets in their last 15 Championship matches.

Huddersfield News

Alex Pritchard is likely to miss Wednesday’s match with the midfielder still recovering from a knee injury. Colin Quaner, Kamil Grabara, Tommy Elphick and Matty Daly are all injured and ruled out for the rest of the season.

Cardiff Form

Cardiff were also victorious in their last Championship fixture as they triumphed 1-0 at bottom side Luton. Lee Tomlin’s effort midway through the second half was enough to earn them all three points.

The Bluebirds are pushing for a playoff place and travel to Huddersfield having suffered just one defeat in their last 10 Championship matches. Neil Harris’ men have however failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last eight Championship matches.

Cardiff News

Winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is ruled out for the rest of the season while Joe Ralls, Isaac Vassell and Danny Ward are set to miss Wednesday’s match through injury. Defender Matthew Connolly continues to battle a knee injury and is not expected to feature.

Huddersfield vs Cardiff Head to Head

Cardiff have a 14-12 advantage with 16 draws from 42 previous matches against Cardiff. Both teams have drawn two of the last three meetings, although Cardiff claimed a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium. Joe Ralls and Junior Hoilett were on target for the Bluebirds while Trevoh Chalobah got the goal for Huddersfield.

Huddersfield vs Cardiff Betting Odds

Huddersfield are slight favourites for the win with Unibet offering odds of 2.50 while a victory for Cardiff is valued at 3.00. A draw is priced at odds of 3.25 which has been the outcome in two of the last three meetings.

Both teams often struggle defensively and this places BTTS at odds of 1.80. Over 2.5 goals is paying 2.00 while over 3.5 goals is offered at 3.85 at Unibet.

Huddersfield vs Cardiff Match Up

Huddersfield striker Steve Mounie is returning to his best form having scored in his last three Championship matches. He should have support from Karlan Ahearne-Grant, who is the team’s top scorer with 13 goals.

Cardiff can also hold their own going forward with Josh Murphy and Callum Paterson, who have been among the goals lately. Lee Tomlin also carries a significant goal threat from midfield and all three men are expected to trouble the Huddersfield backline.
