Hull City vs Wigan Athletic Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Two of the Championship's struggling side meet this weekend when Hull City welcome Wigan Athletic to the KCOM Stadium. Both sides have not been able to find form so far this campaign and a draw is being backed in this encounter.

Hull City Form & Team News

Hull City come into this match after drawing 1-1 away at Milwall in their last outing. Kamil Grosicki scored for Hull, cancelling out Jed Wallace’s opener.

Hull have struggled so far this season. They have not managed to register a victory in their last four Championship outings, suffering two defeats and earning two draws. One of the biggest problems the club are facing is at the back. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 13 Championship outings.

Manager Grant McCann is going to be without lead striker Josh Maggenis after he picked up a suspension in the match against Millwall. McCann may look to former Gillingham striker Tom Eaves to step up and lead the line. George Honeyman is likely to be just behind him after a string of impressive performances.

Hull are priced at 2.05 with bet365 to pick up the home victory. Without Maggenis and with their poor run of form, a draw is more likely at odds of 3.60.

Wigan Athletic Form & Team News

Wigan also find themselves on a terrible run of form this season. The Latics stopped a run of four straight defeats in the league before the international break with a 0-0 draw against Barnsley.

This was also the team’s first clean sheet in their last seven matches. Manager Paul Cook will see this as a turning point after an impressive defensive display. Charlie Mulgrew and Cheyenne Dunkley both put in a solid shift and should both start against Hull.

Kieffer Moore and Jamal Lowe are both likely to hold their place in the starting 11, as will Michael Jacobs in the middle of the park.

Wigan are priced all the way out at 4.00 with bet365 to pick up the victory. Paul Cook’s men put on a strong performance against Barnsley to stop the rot but they will struggle to get a win here.

Hull City vs Wigan Athletic Head to Head

The two sides have met each other 11 times, with Hull picking up four victories and Wigan having the edge with five. Two of their previous encounters have ended in a draw. The last match between the two ended in a 2-1 victory for Hull back in April.

Hull City vs Wigan Athletic Match Up

Both of these teams have had stuttering starts to their Championship campaigns. Wigan Athletic have plenty of attacking prowess in the shape of proven goalscorers Kieffer Moore and Jamal Lowe but both have them have struggled to get going this season.
