Hull City host to Middlesbrough in the Championship on Thursday, with both sides looking to avoid defeat in what is a real six-pointer at the bottom of the table.

Neither of these relegation rivals can afford to lose. Hull are only out of the relegation zone as a result of superior goal difference to fellow strugglers Huddersfield.

Hull City Form

Hull led twice in their last game, only to be denied a first win since January as Birmingham City fought back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3.

The draw with Birmingham came after five defeats in a row for Hull. Their last win in the Championship came way back on January 1st.

Hull City Team News

Angus MacDonald was an unused substitute for the 3-3 draw at Birmingham and may again be part of the matchday squad.

Jon Toral was on the bench at the weekend but may be recalled.

Middlesbrough Form

New boss Neil Warnock made a winning start to his time in charge of the Teessiders at the weekend as Boro won 2-0 at Stoke City.

Prior to the Stoke game, Middlesbrough had won just two games in 2020, with the recent mauling at home to Swansea City leading to the club sacking Jonathan Woodgate and bringing in Warnock.

Middlesbrough Team News

Midfielder Jonny Howson, who has featured in defence this season, is likely to start after agreeing a one-year contract extension.

Like Howson, Adam Clayton, George Friend, Marvin Johnson, and Ryan Shotton were also due to be out of contract on June 30th, but the quartet have agreed to stay at the club until at least the end of the season.

Defender Daniel Ayala and striker Rudy Gestede have left the club, however, after their contracts expired this week.

Hull vs Middlesbrough Head to Head

Middlesbrough lead Hull 10-6 on the head-to-head, with the two teams having met on 20 occasions since 2007 (four draws).

Hull have scored 28 goals in prior meetings with Boro, who have found the net 33 times.

Hull vs Middlesbrough Match Up

Hull ended their losing streak last time out, but whether they can build on that remains to be seen in what is likely to be a close and cagey 90 minutes.

Middlesbrough’s win at Stoke not only gave Neil Warnock a winning start to his time in charge at the Riverside Stadium, but also gave the club – and its supporters – a huge boost and a belief that a change in manager has come at the right time.
