Sheffield Wednesday vs Reading Preview, Predictions and Betting Tips

Sheffield Wednesday host Reading in an important English Championship fixture at Hillsborough. The Owls are looking to continue their push for promotion and have a good record against Reading.

Sheffield Wednesday Form

Sheffield Wednesday have slipped down the table in recent weeks but remain in contention for a playoff place. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Millwall in their previous home fixture and followed up that result with a 1-1 draw at Barnsley with Josh Windass getting the goal.

The Owls need to start picking up wins at Hillsborough to jumpstart their promotion campaign. Garry Monk’s men are unbeaten in nine of their last 12 home matches in the Championship having claimed victories over Bristol City and Brentford in that run.

Sheffield Wednesday News

Top scorer Steven Fletcher is not expected to return to the squad until March which means Crystal Palace loanee Connor Wickham could start in attack. Massimo Luongo and Morgan Fox are closing in on returns but are unlikely to be ready for Saturday’s match.

Mark Bowen’s men have been plagued by defensive problems and are without a clean sheet in their last three matches.

Reading have a lengthy injury list with Chris Gunter, Tom McIntyre, Lucas Boye, Matt Miazga and Lucas Joao all sidelined. Full back Andy Yiadom is closing in on a return but is still expected to miss the trip to Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Reading Match Up

Connor Wickham will be the one to watch for Sheffield Wednesday as he is likely to be the focal point for the team’s attack in the absence of Steven Fletcher. He should have support from Kadeem Harris and Jacob Murphy who have combined for seven goals from midfield.

Reading will look to Yakou Meite to provide the spark in attack but the forward has scored just one goal in his last five away matches. He is likely to find things difficult against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
