Southampton vs West Brom Predictions

Southampton’s home record is strong and the Saints secured some big wins at St Mary’s late in the season. West Brom don’t win many on the road and there is value in backing a home win in the Championship.

Southampton have a 34-25 advantage against West Brom in 84 meetings with 25 draws.

Southampton Form

Southampton ended the Championship season with four wins from seven, including three home victories.

The Saints beat Coventry (2-1), Watford (3-2) and Preston (3-2) at home before a three-match losing run. Russell Martin’s side responded with a 2-1 victory at Leeds and a 0-0 draw at West Brom in the play-offs.

Southampton edged the goalless draw at the Hawthorns on Sunday with 63% possession and three shots on target.

Striker Che Adams is doubtful.

Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, midfielder Juan Larios and forward Ross Stewart are out.

West Brom Form

West Brom are winless in seven of their last nine matches and failed to win in their last four away.

The Baggies also ended the Championship campaign with three defeats from four. Losses came against Sunderland (1-0), Leicester (2-1) and Sheffield Wednesday (3-0) before a final day win over Preston (3-0).

The Midlands outfit then held Southampton to a 0-0 draw in the play-off first leg. Carlos Corberán’s side had two shots on target and 36% possession.

West Brom Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Jayson Molumby and forward Daryl Dike are ruled out.

Verdict

Southampton have been tough to beat at St Mary’s all season and are likely to control the play-off second leg. The Saints can defeat an unthreatening West Brom side and reach the play-off final.
