Head to Head

Watford have an 18-7 advantage against Oxford in 39 meetings with 14 draws. The Hornets beat the U’s 2-0 in the most recent clash at Vicarage Road.

Watford Form

Watford are inside the playoff places following a solid start to the new season. The Hornets have notched 22 points, with 16 coming at Vicarage Road.

Tom Cleverley’s side are on a three-match winning run at home, beating Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Blackburn. Watford followed these results with a 6-2 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Hertfordshire team couldn’t build on the Sheffield Wednesday triumph and lost 1-0 at Swansea. They conceded before half time and were unable to level in the second period.

Watford Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Moussa Sissoko is suspended and unavailable for selection.

Defensive duo Jeremy Ngakia and Angelo Ogbonna and midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru are injured.

Oxford United Form

After securing promotion from League One, Oxford United have established themselves in the Championship mid-table. The U’s won three of their first five games - all at home - and sit 14th.

The decent start gave way to an eight-match winless streak, with two defeats and two draws coming on the road.

Des Buckingham’s outfit ended their winless spell with a 1-0 home triumph over Hull on Wednesday. The U’s had just 4-12 shots and 38% possession but Hidde ter Avest’s second-half strike secured the win.

Oxford United Injuries & Team News

Forwards Matt Phillips and Siriki Dembélé and defender Joe Bennett are ruled out with injuries.

Midfield trio Kyle Edwards, Przemyslaw Placheta and Cameron Brannagan won’t feature due to injury.

Mark Harris and Dane Scarlett have scored seven of Oxford’s 17 league goals. The attacking duo are expected to start on Friday.

Verdict

Watford have beaten some top Championship sides at home recently and Oxford are out of form on the road. The Hornets have momentum and can secure another win at Vicarage Road to remain inside the top six.
