Wigan are looking to put an end to their recent poor run as they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the DW Stadium in an EFL Championship fixture. The Latics have not been at their best this season, with Sheffield also looking off colour lately this should be a close match.

Wigan Form

Wigan are coming off a 2-1 defeat at Swansea in their previous Championship fixture after taking an early lead through Nathan Byrne.

The Latics remain deep in relegation trouble having claimed just one win in their last 16 Championship matches. Paul Cook’s men have fared slightly better at home having drawn three of their last four matches at the DW Stadium.

The major problem for Wigan this season has been in defence where they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 Championship fixtures.

Wigan News

Wigan are without on loan defender Charlie Mulgrew who has returned to parent club Blackburn. The Latics have no new injuries or suspensions and are not expected to make many changes to the team that faced Swansea.

Sheffield Wednesday Form

Sheffield Wednesday head to Wigan off the back of a 2-1 victory at QPR in the FA Cup fourth round. They took the lead two minutes before the break through Morgan Fox while Sam Winnall struck the winner in the 91st minute.

It was a welcome distraction for the Owls who must now focus on improving their Championship form having claimed just one win in their last five league matches. Garry Monk’s men often struggle to keep things tight at the back and were beaten 5-0 in their last Championship fixture against Blackburn.

Sheffield Wednesday News

Midfielder Massimo Luongo is available for selection after having a three-match suspension overturned by the FA. Striker Fernando Forestieri could also be available after featuring for the U23 side but top scorer Steven Fletcher remains sidelined with injury.

Wigan vs Sheffield Wednesday Head to Head

Sheffield Wednesday have a 6-3 advantage from nine previous matches against Wigan. The Owls claimed a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Hillsborough with Massimo Luongo’s second half strike proving to be the difference.
