Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Lionel Messi heading to the Saudi Arabian league when he leaves Paris St Germain this summer.

Messi’s deal with the French giants expires this summer and reports have claimed both parties are not interested in extending their relationship.

That relationship has soured in recent weeks, after the club suspended the World Cup winner for making an unauthorised in-season trip to Saudi Arabia for commercial reasons.

Messi had reportedly sought permission for the trip after being forced to postpone a previously scheduled visit to the country, and despite not being given the green light by the club, he made the journey anyway.

That came on the back of a section of supporters turning on the star after another failed Champions League campaign for the big-spending French outfit.

The suspension though is likely to have been the final straw in the breakdown of the relationship between Messi and PSG, and now all eyes will be on where the Argentinian ace goes next.

Reports have claimed he still believes he can compete at the highest level in European football, and therefore it is no surprise to see former club Barcelona heading up the betting at Even money with Coral.

However, the bookmaker has slashed the odds on Messi following in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps by heading to the Saudi Arabian league.

The league is loaded with cash, as evidenced by Ronaldo’s mega-money move there, and it is now just 6/4, from 4/1, that Messi makes that the next stop in his career.

“Lionel Messi recently visited Saudi Arabia, which has resulted in him picking up a suspension from the French club,” Coral’s John Hill told FreeTips.com.

“The six-time Ballon d’Or winner could return to the Middle East later this year, as he is being well-backed to sign for a Saudi club when his contract expires this summer.”

It is 6/1 that Messi takes his talents to the United States and joins any Major League Soccer club, and 10/1 that he heads back home to his native Argentina and signs with a top-flight club there.

Less likely is a move to the Premier League, with Manchester City and Chelsea both priced up at 20/1 to lure the superstar to England this summer.
