Manchester United are favourites to sign Gareth Bale with Real Madrid rumoured to be releasing the Welshman on a free transfer. 888sport have made the Red Devils 6/4 favourites to sign the Welshman on a free this summer.

Bale has been linked with a move to Manchester United since he was at Tottenham. In July 2019 Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane made his thoughts clear when he said "We hope he leaves soon, it would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team. I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done."

Bale has been at Real Madrid since 2013 when he joined for a then-world record €100m fee. Despite playing an important role in the club winning four Champions League trophies, Bale has never seemed fully content in Spain and has endured a delicate relationship with Zidane.

With Real keen to offload his £350,000-a-week wages, Bale could be on his way out this summer - and United are primed to pounce.

An 888sport spokesman said: “News has emerged from Spain overnight that Real Madrid are set to get rid of Gareth Bale this summer – which means the move to Man United that has been rumoured for years could finally happen.

“United have been long-term admirers of Bale, even since the days of David Moyes, and we think this could be the time this move finally comes off for the Welshman.”

Gareth Bale Next Club Betting Odds

Bale's relationship with the Los Blancos boss is seemingly irreparable and the Red Devils are favourites to land his signature in the coming months. United’s rivals Manchester City also feature prominently in the betting market at 2/1 with a return to Spurs a 3/1 shot.

Fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea (5/1), Liverpool (7/1) and Arsenal (11/1) are also in the mix, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side seem to have stolen a march on their domestic rivals.
