Barcelona Form

Barcelona have won seven of their last eight games, starting by winning five straight with one goal conceded. They won 5-0 at Valencia in the Copa del Rey, Ferran Torres hitting a hat-trick.

Hansi Flick’s side saw the run come to an end against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. Traling 2-0 after six minutes, they built a 4-2 lead before conceding two late goals in a 4-4 draw.

The Catalan club beat Real Sociedad 4-0 to maintain top spot in La Liga. They played against 10 men for over 70 minutes, Robert Lewandowski scoring the final goal.

Barcelona won 1-0 at Benfica in the Champions League round of 16 first leg. It was a huge result after Pau Cubarsi was sent off in the 22nd minute, Raphinha scoring the winning goal in the second half.

Barca’s game against Osasuna was postponed after the club announced the passing of first-team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia.

Benfica Form

Benfica went on a five match winning streak this year, beating Juventus and Monaco on the road in the Champions League. The run came to and end with a 3-3 draw against Monaco which was enough to advance to the round of 16.

The Eagles returned to the Primeira Liga with a 3-0 win against Boavista. They then beat Braga 1-0 to reach the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Vangelis Pavlidis continued his fine form with the winning goal.

Bruno Lage’s side blew a great chance against Barcelona in the Champions League last week. They played against 10 men for over 70 minutes but couldn’t take advantage, Antonio Silva’s loose pass punished in the second half.

Benfica beat Nacional 3-0 on Saturday to maintain the pace at the top of the Primeira Liga. Zeki Amdouni opened the scoring with Orkun Kökçü and Pavlidis converting penalties.

Injuries & Team News

Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal remain out injured.

Pau Cubarsi was sent off in the first leg with Ronald Araujo set to come into the starting side.

Benfica are missing the injured Alexander Bah, Tiago Gouveia, Manu Silva and Angel Di Maria.

Alvaro Carreras is suspended here with Samuel Dahl to start at left-back.

Verdict

Barcelona produced a huge performance in Lisbon last week, beating Benfica 1-0 with 10 men. Robert Lewandowski can score and send the Spanish side into the Champions League quarter-finals.
