Celtic vs Slovan Bratislava Predictions

Celtic should make a winning start to their Champions League campaign, but Slovan should provide decent opposition in Glasgow.

A home win with a minimum of three goals is my top pick given that I also expect Slovan to get on the scoresheet.

Celtic and Slovan Bratislava will meet for the first time at Parkhead.

Celtic return to the Champions League on Wednesday after making a perfect start to their domestic campaign. Brendan Rodgers's side picked up their sixth successive victory with a hard-fought 2-0 win against Hearts on Saturday.

Impressive both in defence and attack, Celtic bagged 17 goals in those victories while leaking just once - in their 3-1 League Cup win at Hibernian.

The Bhoys record in the Champions League (UCL) is a little less impressive. Rodgers's side failed to win 14 successive UCL matches between 2020 and 2023 before a 2-1 win against Feyenoord in last season's final group phase fixtures.

Celtic boss Rodgers has the luxury of a fully fit squad for Wednesday's UCL encounter in Glasgow. The hosts are set to retain the same XI that saw off Hearts last weekend.

Slovan Bratislava Form

Slovan Bratislava face their first-ever UCL contest in winning form after a 2-1 victory at DAC 1904 in the Slovak Super League last weekend.

Led by experienced boss Vladimír Weiss, the Bratislava-based side won 11 and lost just one of 15 matches played this season.

The Slovakian champions navigated four rounds of UCL qualification, including a 4-3 aggregate win in the playoffs against Midtjylland to secure a place in the group phase for the first time in their history.

Head coach Weiss is likely to retain faith in the same XI that edged past DAC 1904 on Saturday. Lukas Pauschek and Adler remain long-term absentees for the away side.

With eight goals in just 11 appearances this season, Armenian forward Tigran Barseghyan will lead the Slovak's attack on Wednesday.
