Inter Milan vs Feyenoord Preview

Inter Milan are coming into this match with a huge 2-0 lead, and I will back them to finish the job on Tuesday with another victory. Nerazzurri revealed some defensive weak spots last weekend in a 3-2 win over Monza though, so I like Feyenoord’s chances of scoring in Italy.

Inter Milan have been in fantastic form throughout February and early March, claiming four victories in their last five appearances across competitions and they are leading the title race in Serie A.

They gained huge 2-0 lead against Feyenoord last week in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg, Marcus Thuram breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute, while Lautaro Martinez doubled the lead later, becoming Inter’s all-time top scorer in the UCL.

Simone Inzgahi’s side was in big trouble last weekend in Serie A, conceding two unanswered goals to Monza, but pulled a massive comeback to win the clash 3-2, Marko Arnautovic, Hakan Calhanoglu and Giorgos Kyriakopoulos (own goal) appearing on the scoresheet.

Feyenoord Form

Feyenoord have advanced to the Champions League Round of 16 after by outplaying AC Milan 2-1 on aggregate. After securing a 1-0 lead in the first leg at home, they escaped Italy with a 1-1 draw, with Julian Carranza scoring the decisive goal in the second half.

They have been struggling in domestic affairs though, replacing head coach Brian Priske with Robin van Persie in late February but still winning just two of their last eight Eredivisie matches, causing them to drop out of the title race.

The squad from Rotterdam lost the first tie to Inter Milan 2-0 last week at home, ending that match with 0.45-2.25 expected goals, 42% possession and 8-13 shots. Their last weekend’s Eredivisie clash against Groningen was postponed.

Team News

Yann Sommer has recovered from a thumb injury, but most likely will be on the bench on Tuesday. Matteo Darmian, Federico Dimarco and Nicola Zalewski are injured for Inter Milan.

Feyenoord have a lengthy injury list ahead of this match with more than ten players on it. The most notable absentees are Bart Nieuwkoop, Justin Bijlow, Gernot Trauner, Hwang In-Beom and Quinten Timber. Ibrahim Osman is suspended.

Inter Milan v Feyenoord

Feyenoord are once again plagued with injuries, so I don’t think they can avoid another loss in Italy. They had a couple of good efforts last week, landing five shots on target, so a home win & BTTS is a value bet.

Also, I am backing Lautaro Martinez to keep scoring in the UCL. The Argentine has found the net three times in his last five games in this competition.
