Sporting CP Form

Sporting CP have improved since Rui Borges became the new manager, most of their best work coming at home.

The Lions went close in the League Cup, beating Porto 1-0 in the semi-finals before a penalty shootout defeat to Benfica in the final.

Sporting got back to the Primeira Liga with a 3-0 win at Rio Ave, enjoying 29-2 shots which included 13-0 on target. They suffered a 2-1 defeat at Leipzig which made it three straight losses in the Champions League.

Borges’ side are coming off a regulation 2-0 win against Nacional. Trincão scored on the stroke of half-time and João Simões came off the bench to score his first senior goal late on.

Bologna Form

Bologna have been hard to beat this season, but a large number of draws have hampered their progress in Serie A.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side were unable to win in their first six Champions League matches, unable to score in five of those contests. They correct that in their previous game, a 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund thanks to late goals from Thijs Dallinga and Samuel Iling-Junior.

Bologna returned to Serie A with a 1-1 draw at Empoli which leaves them eighth on the table. They had 8-1 shots on target but 0.90-0.83 expected goals.

Team News

Bologna's Michel Aebischer hasn’t played seen since October but Riccardo Orsolini is close to returning from a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Remo Freuler is suspended.

Predicted Starting Lineups

Rui Silva is ineligible here with Franco Israel to start in goal for Sporting.

Expect Conrad Harder to replace Viktor Gyökeres up front.

Sporting CP: Silva, Fresneda, Diomande, Inacio, Araújo, Hjulmand, Morita, Trincão, Bragança, Quenda, Harder

Tommaso Pobega should replace Remo Freuler in Bologna's midfield.

Italiano could make a number of changes here with their Champions League campaign coming to an end.

Bologna: Skorupski, Holm, Beukema, Lucumi, Lykogiannis, Pobega, Moro, Orsolini, Ferguson, Ndoye, Castro

Verdict

Bologna haven’t scored in three away games in the Champions League where they have no chance of progressing. Sporting are very strong at home where they can win to reach the play-offs.
