Valencia vs Atalanta Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Valencia will attempt to overturn a 4-1 deficit when they host Atalanta in their UEFA Champions League second leg clash at the Mestalla. The hosts are likely to adopt an attacking approach and with Atalanta’s quality, goals are expected in Tuesday’s clash.

Valencia Form

Valencia are coming off a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Alaves in a La Liga clash last Friday. They took an early lead through Dani Parejo but failed to hold on.

Los Che have not been at their best in recent weeks and have claimed just one win in their last seven matches. They have lost four times in that run, including the 4-1 defeat in the first leg against Atalanta and a 3-0 defeat to Real Sociedad.

Albert Celades' men have been poor in defence conceding two or more goals in five of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Valencia News

Maxi Gomez remains sidelined for Valencia alongside fellow forward Manu Vallejo but Rodrigo should return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench at Alaves. Defenders Eliaquim Mangala, Cristiano Piccini and Ezequiel Garay are also ruled out through injury.

Atalanta Form

Atalanta are well rested for Tuesday’s match having not played since a 7-2 Serie A victory over Lecce on March 1. Duvan Zapata scored a hat-trick while Josip Ilicic, Luis Muriel and Ruslan Malinovsky were also on target.

The Italians travel to the Mestalla in superb form having won six of their last seven matches. Gian Piero Gasperini's men have scored seven goals twice in Serie A victories at Torino and Lecce and also triumphed 4-1 in the first leg against Valencia.

Atalanta News

Atalanta are without central defenders Rafael Toloi and Berat Djimsiti who are both sidelined with injury. Duvan Zapata and Josip Ilicic have impressed in recent matches and should start in attack on Tuesday.

Valencia vs Atalanta Head to Head

There has been only two previous meetings between Valencia and Atalanta with the Italians winning both fixtures. Atalanta claimed a 4-1 victory in the first leg at the San Siro. Hans Hateboer scored a brace with Remo Freuler and Josip Ilicic also on target while Denis Cheryshev got a consolation for Valencia.

Valencia vs Atalanta Betting Odds

A Valencia win is set at odds of 2.80 by bet365 while a victory for Atalanta is valued at 2.45 at betfair. Unibet is paying 3.85 for a draw which was the outcome for Valencia in their last fixture.

The first leg produced over 3.5 goals and a similar outcome is priced at 2.10 while over 2.5 goals is paying 1.50. Atalanta are prominent in the goalscorers market with Duvan Zapata valued at 2.38 at Unibet to score at anytime.

Valencia vs Atalanta Match Up

Valencia are likely to adopt an attacking style of play as they attempt to overturn a heavy first leg deficit. They have looked vulnerable at the back in recent weeks and could struggle against Atalanta’s superb forward line.

Atalanta have also looked shaky at the back with no clean sheets in their last 10 matches. They often balance things out going forward, particularly with Duvan Zapata and Josip Ilicic who have combined for 15 goals in their last 10 appearances.
