Hearts vs Heidenheim Predictions

Hearts have improved significantly in recent weeks and can get another positive result in front of a raucous home crowd.

I'm backing the hosts in the double chance market, while I also expect both teams to score in Edinburgh.

Thursday's Conference League contest marks the first-ever meeting between Hearts and Heidenheim.

Hearts return to Tynecastle on Thursday after a vital 2-1 Premiership win at St. Johnstone last weekend. Kenneth Vargas's late goal lifted the Jambos off the bottom of the division and above city rivals Hibernian.

Neil Critchley's side have enjoyed an improved run of results since the Englishman's appointment in October. Hearts won four and lost only two of their last seven matches. They had failed to win any of 12 previous matches since May (D4, L8) under former boss Stevie Naismith.

The Edinburgh-based side sit sixth in the 36-team Conference League after consecutive victories against Dinamo Minsk (2-1) and Omonia Nicosia (2-0) last month.

Hearts boss Critchley is expected to make at least one change to the side that edged past St. Johnstone last time out. Kenneth Vargas is pushing for a recall after his match-winning intervention in Perth.

Injured trio Calem Nieuwenhof, Gerald Taylor and Yutaro Oda miss out for the home side.

Heidenheim Form

Heidenheim arrive in Scotland after back-to-back domestic defeats suffered in the past week. Eliminated from the DFB Pokal at Hertha Berlin last Wednesday, the Bundesliga outfit slipped to a 1-0 defeat against recently promoted Holstein Kiel on Saturday.

Frank Schmidt's men have struggled to find much winning form in recent weeks. Heidenheim failed to win five of their last six games played since the start of October (W1, D1, L4).

Like Hearts, the Germans also claimed victories in both of their first two Conference League matches against Olimpija (2-1) and Pàfos (1-0).

Heidenheim head coach Schmidt has four expected absentees this week. Julian Niehues, Luka Janes, Thomas Leon Keller, and Lennard Maloney are all likely to remain sidelined on Thursday.
