Galatasaray crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers last Wednesday after a heavy 7-2 aggregate loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Galatasaray trailed 5-1 heading into the second leg at home. They controlled possession with 56% but struggled to create enough chances to get back into the tie.

PSV hit Galatasaray on the counter-attack and scored either side of halftime. New Signing Mbaye Diagne scored a consolation late on to extend Galatasaray’s record of scoring in 13 consecutive matches.

The loss ended Galatasaray’s run of five consecutive wins at home. The Turkish side recorded three straight home wins to end their 2020/21 Super Lig campaign, before winning back-to-back friendlies Kasimpasa (4-2) and Dinamo Bucharest (2-1).

Midfielder Emre Akbaba and defender Omar Elabdellaoui are ruled out through injury.

New signing Patrick van Aanholt (defender) is unlikely to start due to fitness concerns.

Striker Mbaye Diagne could start after coming off the bench and scoring against PSV. He could replace Mostafa Mohamed and partner Burak Yilmaz in attack.

St Johnstone Form

St Johnstone come into their first Europa League fixture since 2017 in patchy form. Callum Davidson’s side have won two of their last eight matches in all competitions.

The 2021 Scottish Cup winners were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw in their first Premiership fixture against Ross County on Saturday.

St Johnstone had the better chances with 10 shots and 56% possession. Allistair McCann missed a penalty on 70 minutes before Liam Craig rattled the post with three minutes remaining.

Davidson’s side have now failed to score in three of their last four matches, following goalless draws with Aberdeen and Fleetwood Town during pre-season.

The Saints also have a poor European record, losing three of their last four matches in Europa League qualifiers.

Goalkeeper Ross Sinclair is ruled out through injury.

Striker Chris Kane could return to the starting XI following his recent injury.

Kane came off the bench against Ross County and could replace Callum Hendry in attack after St Johnstone’s failure to score in three of their last four.
