Kilmarnock vs Connah’s Quay Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Kilmarnock are predicted to claim the win over Connah’s Quay in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League first round qualifier at Rugby Park. The hosts hold a first leg advantage and having won four of their last five home matches, are backed in the -2 handicap market at odds of 1.83.

Kilmarnock FC Form & Team News

Kilmarnock hold the advantage heading into Thursday’s second leg having claimed a 2-1 victory in Wales. They fell behind in the second half after Greg Taylor put through his own net, but Eamonn Brophy levelled the score from the spot before Stuart Findlay netted the winner on the stroke of 90 minutes.

The Scottish team often do their best work in front of their fans having claimed four wins in their last five home matches. They are favoured to win on Sunday at odds of 1.10 but having scored 10 goals and conceded just one in their last five matches, I am tipping a comfortable win and a handicap bet here.

Eamonn Brophy scored 11 goals for Kilmarnock last season and was also on target in the first leg. He is likely to start in attack alongside Rory McKenzie while new signing Mohamed El Makrini could be handed a start after coming off the bench in Wales.

Connah’s Quay FC Form & Team News

Connah’s Quay have a mountain to climb in Scotland following their 2-1 defeat at home in the first leg. They were second best throughout the contest and could only muster one shot on target with their goal coming courtesy of an own goal from Kilmarnock defender Greg Taylor.

Andy Morrison’s men have a woeful record in the Europa League and head into Thursday’s clash off the back of four straight defeats. They have also lost their last three away matches in the competition, placing them at a massive 11.00 for a win in Scotland while a draw is priced at 9.00.

Connah’s Quay offered very little going forward in the first leg and have scored just two goals in their last five matches. Michael Wilde is the man usually tasked with leading the line for the Welsh team but the striker has failed to score in his last three matches.

Kilmarnock vs Connah’s Quay Head to Head

Last week’s clash was the first ever meeting between Kilmarnock and Connah’s Quay. The Scottish team dominated the possession and had more shots on goal (9-1). They should have won by more and should put up another dominant display on Thursday.

Kilmarnock vs Connah’s Quay Match Up

Eamonn Brophy will be the one to watch for Kilmarnock as he looks to continue his fine goal scoring form. He has scored in his last three matches and his combination with Rory McKenzie should prove too much to handle for Connah’s Quay.

Kilmarnock are also quite solid at the back and have kept four clean sheets in their last six home matches. They will be confident of shutting out Michael Wilde, who is currently on a three-match goal drought for Connah’s Quay.

Kilmarnock vs Connah’s Quay Key Statistics

  • Kilmarnock have won 4 of their last 5 home matches (all competitions).
  • Kilmarnock have kept clean sheets in 4 of their last 6 home matches (all competitions).
  • Connah’s Quay have lost their last 4 matches (UEFA Europa League).

Verdict

Thursday’s clash appears to be a mismatch with Kilmarnock in good form at the moment while Connah’s Quay have lost their last four matches in the Europa League. I am backing the hosts in the -2 handicap market odds of 1.83.
