Lille vs Ajax Predictions

Lille and Ajax come into this encounter on an unbeaten run so it should be a riveting contest. Ajax have a proven away record in European football so I'm backing this match to end level.

  • Lille are unbeaten in 17 of their last 18 home matches (all competitions).
  • Lille have seen BTTS Yes in 5 of their last 6 matches (Europa League).
  • Lille have drawn 6 of their last 8 home matches (Europa League).
  • Ajax have seen BTTS Yes in 3 of their last 5 matches (all competitions).
  • Ajax are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 away matches (all competitions).
  • Ajax are unbeaten in 16 of their last 18 away matches (European competitions).

Head to Head

Ajax lead Lille 2-0 in theead to head. Both of those matches came during the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League group stage.

Ajax beat Lille 3-0 at home before winning 2-0 in Amsterdam.

Lille Form

Lille qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League by finishing second in their group. They won three of their six matches and only suffered one defeat.

The French side comes into this clash in sparkling form having won seven of their last eight matches. Perhaps even more impressively, Lille have not conceded in their last six.

That run began with 1-0 victories at Rennes and at home to Dijon in Ligue 1. Lille followed that up with three successive away wins against Bordeaux (3-0), Nantes (2-0) and Dijon (1-0). The latter result came in the Coupe de France.

In their last match, Lille drew 0-0 at home against Brest. Lille’s finishing was poor as they dominated the match with 15-3 shots.

Lille Injuries & Team News

The only injury concern for Lille is forward Burak Yilmaz with the 35-year-old suffering from a calf injury.

Attacker Jonathan David has been in fine form in front of goal with four goals in his last seven matches. In the absence of Yilmaz, David will provide the goal scoring threat.

Ajax Form

Ajax arrive in the UEFA Europa League knockout phase after they finished third in their Champions League group. In what was a tough group, Ajax managed seven points from their six matches and will fancy their chances a level lower.

The Dutch giants are in flying form at the moment with eight straight victories. They are unbeaten in their last 13 matches.

In the Eredivisie, Ajax beat Fortuna Sittard 2-1 away before winning 3-1 at home to Willem II. That was followed by a 3-0 victory at AZ.

In the KNVB Cup, Ajax defeated PSV 2-1 at home. Their latest match ended in a 2-0 victory at Heracles where Davy Klaassen and Sebastien Haller scored.

Ajax Injuries & Team News

Oussama Idrissi is still ill and a doubt for this match on the left wing.

The big blow for Ajax is that forward new signing, Sebastien Haller is not eligible to play in Europe this season.

Goalkeeper, Andre Onana has recently been found guilty of doping and is banned.

Verdict

Lille are in superb form with seven wins in their last eight matches. Ajax have however only suffered two defeats in their last 18 away matches in Europe, so I'm backing the Dutch side to earn a 1-1 draw.
