Porto vs Olympiakos Preview

Porto sacked Vitor Bruno this week and the team will have plenty of support at Estadio do Dragao. Olympiakos haven’t lost in 16 games however, and a draw will suit the Greek club in the Europa League.

Form

Porto ended 2024 with four straight victories, scoring 11 goals and not conceding in the process. They beat Midtjylland 2-0 in the Europa League to get into the play-off positions.

Vitor Bruno’s side had a disastrous start to 2025, beginning in the League Cup semi-finals where they lost 1-0 to Sporting CP in Leiria. They returned to Madeira to complete their game against Nacional, a poor performance resulting in a 2-0 defeat.

The Dragons lost 3-1 at Gil Vicente on Sunday, their lack of cohesion on show as Nico González and Samu Aghehowa were sent off in the closing stages. Bruno was immediately sacked with José Tavares taking over until a permanent manager is appointed.

Olympiakos haven’t lost since late October, a run of 16 straight games. They lost their opening Europa League match but are unbeaten in five outings since, conceding one goal in that spell.

Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side are still alive in the Greek Cup, earning a 1-1 draw at Panathinaikos in the quarter-final first leg.

Panagiotis Retsos and Ayoub El Kaabi scored in a 2-1 win at Atromitos on Sunday, the victory extending their lead at the top of the Super League 1 to four points.

Team News

Porto’s Martim Fernandes and Marko Grujic remain out injured. Ivan Marcano is working his way back after a long layoff.

Expect Tavares to make some changes here with Rodrigo Mora and Gonçalo Borges in line to start.

Olympiacos’ Yusuf Yazici is likely to be out for the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

Portuguese players David Carmo, Costinha, Sérgio Oliveira, Chiquinho and Gelson Martins will all be hoping to feature here.

Verdict

Porto are in transition, the club sacking Vitor Bruno following three straight defeats. A return to Estadio do Dragao should help their spirits, but Olympiakos are very hard to beat and will be more than satisfied with a point in Portugal.
