Trabzonspor vs Sparta Prague Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Trabzonspor battled back from the brink in the 1st leg against Sparta Prague and can go on with the job in Turkey. I am backing a home win with Trabzonspor to advance to the UEFA Europa League playoffs.

Trabzonspor vs Sparta Prague Form & Team News

Trabzonspor finished fourth in the Turkish Super Lig last season, ending up just six points behind champions Galatasary. Manager Ünal Karaman will hope to push on even further this season and fight for the title.

The club from Trabzon in eastern Turkey drew all four pre-season games before leaving it late to salvage a 2-2 draw in the 1st leg. Down 2-0 in the Czech Republic, Caleb Ekuban scored in the 84th minute and substitute Alexander Sörloth equalised just before full time.

Trabzonspor sold promising attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazici to Lille and striker Hugo Rodallega left on a free transfer to Denizlispor. They had some success by holding onto prolific wingers Anthony Nwakaeme and Abdülkadir Ömür with Argentine José Sosa still in the squad.

Striker Caleb Ekuban moved from English Championship club Leeds United and will be a player to watch this season. Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi arrived on a free transfer from Middlesbrough and can be another important player for the Turkish club.

Nemanja Andjusic and Edgar Ié are ineligibile with Ogenyi Onazi suspended, but their absences won’t affect the home side. Trabzonspor can be backed to win at 1.85 and after winning their final five home games of the Super Lig season, I think there is value in that price.

AC Sparta Prague Form & Team News

Sparta Prague finished third in the Czech Liga last season, 15 points behind cross town rivals Slavia Prague. Manager Vaclav Jilek takes over after spending just under four years at SK Sigma Olomouc.

Sparta were in a great position to take control of the tie with Costa Nhamoinesu and Guélor Kanga putting the Czech Republic side 2-0 up, but a late slip saw them conced two goals which puts them in a precarious position before the 2nd leg in Turkey.

They followed up with a 4-3 defeat at Mladá Boleslav which leaves them six pointe behind Slavia Prague after just five matches in the Czech Liga. One positive this season was holding onto top scorers Guélor Kanga and Benjamin Tetteh, but they have a mountain of injuries.

Defenders Ondrej Zahustel and Filip Panak are out, midfielders Martin Frydek, Adam Hlozek and Tal Ben Haim are injured with attackers Vaclav Kadlec, Martin Graiciar Vaclav Drchal, Matej Pulkrab and Borek Dockal all missing.

Sparta Prague can be backed to win at 5.00 with a draw paying 3.60. A low scoring draw will send them out on the away goals rule, so they need to go for the win which could leave them open at the back.

Trabzonspor vs Sparta Prague Head to Head

The first leg meeting at the Generali Arena was the first encounter between these clubs. Sparta Prague were on top but Trabzonspor fought back to claim a 2-2 draw in the final minutes.

Trabzonspor vs Sparta Prague Match Up

Trabzonspor will be looking to exciting wingers Anthony Nwakaeme and Abdülkadir Ömür to create opportunities for striker Caleb Ekuban. With the creative Argentine José Sosa operating in midfield, the Turkish club should have too much firepower at home for a Sparta Prague side that have conceded six goals in their last two matches.
