Croatia vs Wales Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips
A Croatia side struggling with a FIFA World Cup hangover hosts Wales in Saturday’s UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier at the Stadion Gradski. Both teams have big names in their ranks but are battling to hit top gear and my tip is a draw at 3.80.
Croatia Form & Team News
Croatia began Euro 2020 qualifying with a 2-1 home win over lowly Azerbaijan but then slumped to a 2-1 away defeat to Hungary. Ante Rebic’s goal was not enough to save Zlatko Dalic’s side from an embarrassing defeat.
It does not help the World Cup silver medalists’ cause that Rebic and Ivan Rakitic have been ruled out of this important Euro 2020 qualifier. Andrej Kramaric is thus likely to be a popular pick in the anytime goalscorer market at 2.60.
Croatia can be backed for the win at 1.60 and this is not out of the question despite their setbacks. I believe there is value in a draw at 3.80 with Croatia’s home advantage and recent World Cup run balanced against their injuries and poor current form.
Wales Form & Team News
The Dragons saw off Slovakia 1-0 at home in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier with Daniel James scoring the winner. Ryan Giggs’ men have had their ups and downs like Croatia and their last 12 matches have produced five wins, two draws and five defeats.
Gareth Bale is the most notable name in the Wales squad with Daniel James also drawing plenty of attention due to reports linking him with Manchester United. Bale is paying 4.00 in the anytime goalscorer market while James can be backed at 9.00.
Wales are priced at 6.00 for an away win, big odds for a team which made the Euro 2016 semifinals. I believe they are in a similar position to Croatia with both positives and problems, so a draw would be a sensible bet with all factors considered.
Croatia vs Wales Head to Head
Croatia have met Wales four times, winning three of those matches and drawing one. The most recent win was a 2-1 away win in FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifying but Welsh football has since enjoyed a period of success.
Croatia vs Wales Match Up
Andrej Kramaric has scored three times in his last four appearances for Croatia and Wales need to be wary of him.
Wales have shared their goals amongst the team in recent matches but it is always worth keeping an eye on all-time top Dragons goalscorer Gareth Bale.
Croatia vs Wales Key Statistics
- Croatia have won 2 and lost 2 of their last 4 matches (all competitions).
- Croatia are undefeated in their last 32 home matches (European Championship qualifiers).
- Wales have won 2 and lost 2 of their last 4 matches (all competitions).
- Wales are undefeated in 5 of their last 6 away matches (European Championship qualifiers).
Both Croatia and Wales have had their ups and downs in recent years and are evenly matched at the moment. I am tipping a draw for this Euro 2020 qualifier at 3.80.
