France went close to winning the World Cup in Qatar. They beat Australia 4-1 and Denmark 2-1 to Top Group D despite losing 1-0 to Tunisia in the final group game.

Les Bleus thrashed Poland 3-1 in the Round of 16 with Oliver Giroud scoring late to secure a 2-1 win against England in the quarter-finals. They beat Morocco 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Didier Deschamps's side went close in the final after being 2-0 down in the 80th minute. Kylian Mbappé scored twice to take it to extra time where he equalised again, Argentina prevailing in the penalty shootout.

Matteo Guendouzi and Ousmane Dembélé were not called up.

Olivier Giroud has scored 53 goals in 120 internationals.

Netherlands Form


Netherlands are undefeated in their last 20 matches in all competitions. They topped League a/Group 4 in the Nations League, winning five games with one draw.

Oranje took that form to the World Cup, beating Senegal and Qatar 2-0 alongside a 1-1 draw against Ecuador to Top Group A.

Netherlands beat United States 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals where they went out to Argentina. Wout Weghorst scored two late goals to make it 2-2, the game going to a penalty shootout where the South American side prevailed.

Ronald Koeman became the new manager in January, replacing Louis van Gaal.
