Northern Ireland and Slovakia battle it out for a place at Euro 2020 when they meet in a play-off at Windsor Park on Thursday. A spot in the rescheduled finals awaits the winner as both nations bid to book a spot in next summer's European Championships.

Northern Ireland Form

Northern Ireland kept their qualification hopes alive with a penalty shootout win over Bosnia & Herzigovina last month. Niall McGinn's second-half goal cancelled out Rade Krunic's opener and Northern Ireland went on to win 4-3 on penalties at Stadion Grbavica in Sarajevo.

A pace in Group E at Euro 2020 awaits the winner alongside Spain, Poland and Sweden, but can Northern Ireland rediscover the winning habit?

Ian Baraclough's side have won just one of their last 10 internationals, that coming in a 3-2 friendly win against the Czech Republic in October last year. Since then, they have lost four and drawn three of their last seven matches.

It was back-to-back 1-0 defeats for Northern Ireland last month as they failed to build on the shootout win over Bosnia. They went down to Austria at home and Norway away in UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Northern Ireland Team News

Boss Ian Baraclough made three changes to his squad with Celtic goalkeeper Conor Hazard, Manchester United midfielder Ethan Galbraith and Aberdeen winger Matthew Kennedy called up.

The trio replace injured Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson, Rangers winger Jordan Jones, omitted due to coronavirus protocols, and Oxford winger Joel Cooper.

Kennedy has since been forced out of the squad due to injury, as has Blackburn midfielder Corry Evans.

St Johnstone midfielder Ali McCann has been called up for the second time and could make his debut after failing to play in last month's internationals.

Slovakia Form

Slovakia begin life under interim coach Stefan Tarkovic, who will be looking to inspire a second successive qualification for the European Championships finals.

The Slovakians also needed a penalty shootout in their semi-final, beating Republic of Ireland 4-2 after the game had ended in a 0-0 draw.

Like Northern Ireland, they suffered back-to-back defeats after the play-off success. Slovakia were beaten 1-0 away at Scotland in the UEFA Nations League and went down 3-2 at home to Israel.

Slovakia have now won one of their last nine internationals.

Slovakia Team News

New coach Stefan Tarkovic has named his squad as well as a number of alternatives should Slovakia be affected any further by coronavirus.

He is without Dušan Kuciak, Denis Vavro, Lukáš Haraslín, František Plach and Samuel Mráz due to positive tests and Jaroslav Mihalík is also out. Injured goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka is another absentee.

Slovakia do have Tomáš Hubočan and Vladimír Weiss back in the fold after previously making themselves unavailable. Slovan Bratislava midfielder Weiss hasn't played since late 2018, while Omonia Nicosia defender Hubocan has been missing since last year.

Inter Milan defender Milan Škriniar returns after overcoming coronavirus, but İstanbul Başakşehir captain Martin Skrtel has only been named among the alternatives after an injury.
