Portugal won all ten European Championship qualifiers, nine of those victories coming with clean sheets. The only time they conceded was in a 3-2 victory against Slovakia.

The Seleção played two friendlies in March, starting with a 5-2 win against Sweden. They suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat in Slovenia, conceding two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Roberto Martinez’s side tested themselves three times before Euro 2024, beginning by beating Finland 4-2 with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice. They lost 2-1 to Croatia, Diogo Jota equalising in the second half.

Portugal built some confidence after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Republic of Ireland. João Félix’s deflected strike set them off, Cristiano Ronaldo hitting the woodwork in the first half and scoring twice in the second half.

Despite guiding his side to Euro 2024, manager Jaroslav Silhavy left after five years in charge, replaced by Ivan Hasek who previously had the top job in 2009.

Hasek has won all four friendlies in charge, starting with a 2-1 win in Norway and 2-1 victory over Armenia in Prague where they overturned a 1-0 deficit.

The Czech side saw Mojmir Chytil score twice in a 7-1 thrashing of Malta, ending with a 2-1 win against North Macedonia thanks to Antonin Barak’s 98th minute penalty.
