Germany were unconvincing in the group stage. They started with a 3-0 win against Hungary before a 1-1 draw against Netherlands.

Stefan Kuntz’s side advanced to the knockout rounds after a 0-0 draw against Romania. They finished level on points with Netherlands and Romania and advanced on goal difference.

Germany got past Denmark in the quarter-finals. Lukas Nmecha made it 1-1 in the 88th minute and Jonathan Burkardt put them in front in extra time before conceding a penalty.

Burkardt missed Germany’s first spot kick, but Germany were perfect from then on, winning 8-7 in the penalty shootout.

Germany got off to a great start against Netherlands in the semi-finals. Florian Wirtz scored twice in the opening 8 minutes and they rode it out to secure a 2-1 victory.
