Spain U21 vs France U21 Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Spain have hit form at the right time at the UEFA U21 European Championship. I am backing Spain to beat France in the semi-final match at the MAPEI Stadium in Reggio nell'Emilia with value on offer at 2.40.

Spain U21 Form & Team News

Spain bounced back from a 3-1 defeat against Italy in their opening U21 European Championship match to top Group A. Dani Ceballos opened the scoring against Italy and has been one of the best players at the tournament.

Manager Luis de la Fuente made three changes against Belgium U21 with Spain U21 leaving it late to secure a 2-1 win. Dani Olmo scored in the 6th minute but it wasn’t until the 89th minute that substitute Pablo Fornals scored the winner.

It all came together in a dominant 5-0 win against Poland U21 to secure a semi-final spot. Pablo Fornals made his first start and opened the scoring with Mikel Oyarzabal, Fabián Ruiz, Dani Ceballos and substitute Borja Mayoral all on the score sheet.

It would be surprising if de la Fuente made many changes against France U21. Marc Roca made his first start in central midfield and performed well, all six players in midfield and attack involved in goals and assists.

Spain U21 had 69% possession against Poland U21 with more shots (33-4) and corners (10-1). It followed from having 67% possession against Belgium U21 with more shots (25-10) and corners (12-3).

Spain U21 are favourites against France U21 and many will be taking the 2.40 odds on offer for the win. A draw is priced at 3.40 if you fancy this match going to extra time.

France U21 Form & Team News

France left it late to secure a 2-1 win against England in their opening UEFA U21 European Championship match. Moussa Dembélé and Houssem Aouar couldn’t convert penalties but France U21 dominated the match after Hamza Choudhury was sent off.

Les Bleuets were relentless with Jonathan Ikoné equalising in the 89th minute and substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta forcing an own goal in added time. Moussa Dembélé made amends for his penalty miss by scoring early on in the next match against Croatia U21 which was enough to earn a 1-0 win.

Few risks were taken against Romania U21 with a draw enough for both nations to advance to the semi-finals. Sylvain Ripoll’s side came away with a 0-0 draw that saw France U21 progress as the best second placed side.

Winger Jonathan Bamba picked up an injury against England U21 and will miss the rest of the tournament. Wingers Marcus Thuram and Jonathan Ikone found it hard to make an impact against Romania U21 and the midfield was over run at times.

Expect striker Moussa Dembélé to come back in for Jean-Philippe Mateta with Colin Dagba competing with Kelvin Amian for the right-back spot. Central defenders Ibrahima Konaté and Dayot Upamecano have played every minute of the tournament and will need to be at their best against Spain U21.

France U21 can be backed at 3.20 to win the match with a draw priced at 3.40. The concerns is France scoring just on goal in their last two matches.

Spain U21 vs France U21 Head to Head

France U21 have a narrow 2-1 advantage over Spain U21 with three draws in six matches. The last encounter was a 1-1 draw in an international friendly at Stade Michel-d'Ornano, a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty cancelled out by Jean-Philippe Mateta’s late strike.

Spain U21 vs France U21 Match Up

Spain U21 have a number of players contributing goals and assists. Manager Luis de la Fuente has found a winning formula with his side taking 58 shots and scoring seven goals in their last two matches.

France U21 have not been creating as many chances, 15 shots taken in their last two matches with one goal scored. They appear over reliant on striker Moussa Dembélé.
