Belgium vs Switzerland Match Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Belgium host Switzerland at the Stade Roi Baudouin and are expected to win this Europa League clash. Eden Hazard is in sensational form so we are sticking with the electric winger to keep scoring in a win for the home nation.

Belgium

The Red Devils fell against France in the World Cup semi-finals before winning the third place playoff against England. Roberto Martinez’ side have since won two in a row, a 4-0 friendly win in Scotland and a 3-0 win in Iceland to start their UEFA Nations League campaign.

Eden Hazard opened the scoring from the penalty spot with Romelu Lukaku bagging a brace. Hazard is in fantastic form for club and country, scoring 10 goals in his last 10 games. The Chelsea winger has been involved in a goal or an assist in 14 of his last 18 games.

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw at Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday but hasn’t been selected. Jan Vertonghen is out long-term after sustaining an injury for Tottenham.

Switzerland

The Swiss were eliminated in the first knockout round at the 2018 World Cup with a 1-0 defeat against Sweden. Switzerland opened their UEFA Nations League account with a 6-0 win against Iceland before falling 1-0 against England in a friendly at King Power Stadium in Leicester.

Vladimir Petkovic continues as manager and isn’t expected to make many changes from the side that defeated Iceland. Petkovic did experiment with three central defenders against England however which might come into consideration.

Michael Lang has played for Borussia Monchengladbach recently and should be fit enough to start at right-back. Haris Seferovic will continue up front with Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings in behind.

Head-to-Head

These nations have played seven times with three wins each and one draw. The last match was a 2016 friendly in Geneva with Belgium defeating Switzerland 2-1, goals to Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne cancelling out Blerim Džemail’s opener.

Match Up

Belgium have a well-balanced squad with an incredibly talented front three. Dries Mertens, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku will strike fear into a Switzerland defence that will need help to neutralise them.

The Swiss are a good side, but playing in Brussels against an in-form Belgium is a tough task.

Key Statistics

  • Belgium have won 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions.
  • Belgium have won 4 of their last 5 home matches, keeping 4 clean sheets (Friendlies).
  • Eden Hazard has scored 10 goals in his last 10 games for Belgium and Chelsea.
  • Switzerland have lost 2 of their last 3 matches to nil (All competitions).
  • Switzerland have conceded at least 1 goal in their last 5 matches in all competitions).

Verdict

Belgium have an extremely good squad and should have too much in attack for Switzerland.

Odds of 1.50 on a Belgium win are fine for accumulators, I am sticking with the in-form Eden Hazard in the goalscorer markets to provide more value.

Score/Win Double: Eden Hazard/Belgium Win @ 2.75 – 4 Units
Value Bet: Eden Hazard First Goalscorer @ 5.50 - 2 Units
