Denmark Form

Denmark qualified for the European Championship after going unbeaten in Group D. They finished second, one point behind Switzerland with four wins and four draws.

Åge Hareide’s side fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Belgium in the Nations League on Saturday. It was a close match with Belgium’s individual quality the difference.

It was Kasper Hjulmand’s first match in charge as manager after replacing Åge Hareide in July. The defeat ended Denmark’s unbeaten run in 25 competitive matches stretching back to October 2016.

The only blemish was a 2-1 defeat to runners-up Czech Republic. Gareth Southgate’s side finished their qualifying campaign with easy wins against Bulgaria (6-0), Montenegro (7-0) and Kosovo (4-0).

England got off to a winning start in the UEFA Nations League despite Kyle Walker’s 70th minute red card. They had 78% possession in Iceland and had 13-2 shots, winning it through a late Raheem Sterling penalty.

His 91st minute strike looked to have settled the contest, but Joe Gomez conceded a penalty to give Iceland a chance to equalise. Thankfully for Southgate’s men, Birkir Bjarnason sent the chance over the bar.
