England take on Denmark in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday night at Wembley. Will either maintain their 100% record and make it three wins from three during this international break?

England Form

Despite criticism from some sections, Gareth Southgate’s somewhat pragmatic tactics have prevailed successfully during this international break. England have reverted back to the 3-5-2 formation that served them so well during the 2018 World Cup and it has resulted in victories in the last two internationals.

An experimental side defeated Wales 3-0 in a friendly last Thursday, before they then took on Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday. It proved to be another successful game for the Three Lions, as they came out 2-1 winners against Roberto Martinez’s side after goals from Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount.

England sit top of Nations League A Group 2 after starting off with two wins and a draw from their three games. They have the chance to solidify their position at the top of the group before the final round of fixtures.

England Team News

England captain Harry Kane was left on the bench for Sunday’s win over Belgium but could return here after successfully completing 25 minutes as a substitute.

Jack Grealish’s man of the match performance against Wales wasn’t enough to earn him a place in the starting XI on Sunday and the Aston Villa star will likely have to settle for a place on the bench again here following Mason Mount’s winner against Belgium.

Denmark Form

To stand any chance of finishing top of their UEFA Nations League group Denmark will have to get a positive result from their trip to Wembley on Wednesday.

A slow start to the tournament has left Denmark playing catch up. They kicked off with a 2-0 defeat at home to Belgium, before then holding Wednesday’s opponents England to a 0-0 draw.

However, there has been no lack of goals during this most recent international break, with Kasper Hjulmand’s team scoring seven goals in their last two games. The goals started with a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands in their friendly last Wednesday, before then getting their first win on the board in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday.

That came via an impressive 3-0 win away to Iceland, which saw both Christian Eriksen and Robert Skov get on the scoresheet for the Danes. Denmark will be looking to protect an extremely admirable away record having gone unbeaten in each of their last eight games on the road.

Denmark Team News

As ever, Christian Eriksen will be the key man for Denmark in this contest and it will be a special occasion for the midfielder as he earns his 100th cap for his country, as will captain and defender Simon Kjaer.

England fans will recognise many of the Danish squad, with Kasper Schmeichel, Jonas Lossl, Jannik Vestergaard, Andreas Christensen, Henrik Dalsgaard, Philip Billing, Matthias Jensen and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all playing domestically for English clubs.
