Estonia vs Sweden Predictions

A high-scoring away win seems likely when Estonia hosts Sweden in Tallinn.

I'm putting my money on Sweden to claim victory with a minimum of three goals scored.

  • Estonia have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 9 matches
  • Estonia have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (Nations League)
  • Estonia lost 14 of their last 18 matches
  • Estonia lost their last 5 matches against Sweden
  • Sweden won 5 of their last 9 matches
  • Sweden have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches
  • Sweden have seen over 2.5 goals in  9 of their last 11 away matches

Head to Head

Estonia and Sweden have met on ten previous occasions since 1997. Sweden won eight of those games while Estonia claimed a pair of draws in 2016 and 2018.

Monday's contest will be their fifth encounter since September 2023. Sweden won all four of those recent fixtures, including a 5-0 win in Tallinn last year.

Estonia Form

Estonia come into Monday's Nations League encounter in high spirits after a 3-1 win against regional rivals Azerbaijan on Friday. Rocco Shein's first international goal put the seal on a rare victory for Jürgen Henn's side.

Before Friday's victory in Tallinn, Estonia had endured a miserable run of results, with 14 losses and just one recorded from their 18 previous international fixtures.

The Sinisärgid have struggled in recent home fixtures, losing five of their last nine, including a 5-0 defeat against Sweden last September.

Estonia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Matvei Igonen, Karl Jakob Hein, Karl Andre Vallner
Defenders: Märten Kuusk, Michael Schjønning-Larsen, Rasmus Peetson, Maksim Paskotši, Joonas Tamm, Karol Mets (captain), Michael Lilander, Artur Pikk
Midfielders: Mattias Käit, Rocco Shein, Mihkel Ainsalu, Patrik Kristal, Ioan Yakovlev, Martin Miller, Markus Poom, Martin Vetkal, Vlasiy Sinyavskiy, Kevor Palumets
Forwards: Robi Saarma, Henri Anier, Erik Sorga, Sergei Zenjov, Alex Matthias Tamm

Head coach Henn will likely retain faith in much of the same XI that claimed victory against Azerbaijan on Friday. Maksim Paskotši is an injury concern after he was forced off early in the first half.

Sweden Form

Sweden make the trip to Tallinn after letting a two-goal lead slip in Friday's Nations League contest in Slovakia. A double strike from David Strelec secured a 2-2 comeback draw for the home side.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's men have shown some signs of improvement this season, picking up victories against Estonia (3-0), and Azerbaijan (3-1) in September, before Friday's share of the spoils in Bratislava.

High-scoring outcomes have been frequent in the Swede's recent away fixtures. An average of 3.9 goals were scored in their last 11 road trips.

Sweden Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Jacob Widell Zetterström, Viktor Johansson, Kristoffer Nordfeldt
Defenders: Emil Krafth, Victor Lindelöf, Isak Hien, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Ludwig Augustinsson, Ken Sema, Alex Douglas, Daniel Svensson
Midfielders: Lucas Bergvall, Jesper Karlström, Yasin Ayari, Anton Salétros, Simon Olsson, Hugo Larsson, Hugo Bolin
Forwards: Sebastian Nanasi, Anthony Elanga, Niclas Eliasson, Viktor Gyökeres, Dejan Kulusevski

Head coach Tomasson is likely to make one or two changes to his selection on Monday. Victor Lindelof and Hugo Larsson are among those in contention for a place in the first XI.

Injured quartet Alexander Isak, Robin Olsen, Carl Starfelt, and Gustaf Nilsson are all absent from the Swedish squad.

Verdict

Sweden will likely extend their unbeaten run with a high-scoring away win on Monday.

I'm backing the visitors to claim the points with a minimum of three goals expected at the e A. Le Coq Arena.
