Finland vs Republic of Ireland Preview

Most of Finland's positive results come at home and the Republic of Ireland are lacking momentum. A home double chance bet looks like a decent option in this potentially hard-fought Nations League encounter.

Head to Head

Finland and Ireland have won two matches each in five meetings with one draw. The Eagle-Owls beat the Boys in Green 1-0 in the last two meetings.

Finland Form

Finland were unbeaten in two of three matches before losing twice in the 2024/25 Nations League. The Nordic team beat Estonia 2-1 at home and drew 2-2 in Scotland either side of a 4-2 loss against Portugal.

The Eagle-Owls couldn’t build after the Scotland stalemate and lost 3-0 away against Greece in Group B2.

Markku Kanerva’s outfit suffered another loss on matchday two, falling to a 2-0 loss in England. They were outplayed, attempting just two shots, and conceded twice in the second period.

Finland Injuries & Team News

Defender Juhani Pikkarainen has joined the senior squad for the first time and is in contention to feature here.

Teemu Pukki has played 123 internationals, scored 42 goals and made 16 assists. The veteran striker is expected to start up front against Ireland.

Goalkeepers: Viljami Sinisalo, Jesse Joronen, Lukas Hradecky
Defenders: Juhani Pikkarainen, Adam Ståhl, Miro Tenho, Tomas Galvez, Arttu Hoskonen, Ilmari Niskanen, Robert Ivanov, Nikolai Alho, Jere Uronen
Midfielders: Leo Walta, Anssi Suhonen, Matti Peltola, Urho Nissilä, Glen Kamara, Rasmus Schüller
Forwards: Topi Keskinen, Oliver Antman, Benjamin Källman, Fredrik Jensen, Robin Lod, Joel Pohjanpalo, Teemu Pukki

Republic of Ireland Form

The Republic of Ireland are winless in seven of their previous eight in all competitions and lost five. They were on a four-match winless run before beating Hungary 2-1 at home in June.

A three-match losing streaking came next. The Boys in Green were beaten by Portugal 3-0 and England 2-0.

A 2-0 home loss 2-0 against Greece in the Nations League made it three defeats on the spin. Ireland struggled to threaten Greece with eight shots and one on target before shipping two second-half goals.

Republic of Ireland Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Will Smallbone has been left out due to injury.

Captain and defender Seamus Coleman is also absent with a long-term injury complaint.

Jack Taylor and Mark McGuinness have been called up from the under-21s and could make their senior debuts.

Goalkeepers: Caoimhín Kelleher, Mark Travers, Max O'Leary
Defenders: Robbie Brady, Dara O'Shea, Andrew Omobamidele, Liam Scales, Festy Ebosele, Mark McGuinness
Midfielders: Josh Cullen, Jason Knight, Jayson Molumby, Jamie McGrath, Finn AzazJack Taylor
Forwards: Adam Idah, Troy Parrott, Chiedozie Ogbene, Evan Ferguson, Mikey Johnston
Sammie Szmodics, Kasey McAteer

Verdict

Finland have shown promise on home turf and Ireland are on a poor run of form. The Eagle-Owls’ decent form in Helsinki makes a home double chance the standout selection here.
