France vs Croatia Preview

France lost 2-0 in Split and will have plenty of support as they attempt to turn it around in Paris. I am backing Les Bleus to win here, but Croatia can score to make it a grandstand finish.

France Form

France lost 3-1 against Italy in their opening Nations League match following Bradley Barcola’s early goal. They then won three straight, two victories against Belgium either side of a 4-1 win against Israel.

Les Bleus had 71% possession and 24-3 shots against Israel in Paris, ending with 8-1 shots on target in a 0-0 draw. They won 3-1 in Italy to take top spot in Group 2, Adrien Rabiot scoring twice with Lucas Digne registering two assists.

Didier Deschamps’ side suffered a 2-0 defeat at Croatia in the quarter-final first leg. Mike Maignan saved an early penalty but it made little difference, ending the contest with 62% possession and 16-8 shots.

France Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan, Brice Samba, Lucas Chevalier
Defenders: Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Digne, Théo Hernandez, Jules Koundé, Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba, Ibrahima Konaté, Jonathan Clauss
Midfielders: Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Mattéo Guendouzi, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Manu Koné
Forwards: Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Randal Kolo Muani, Bradley Barcola, Michael Olise, Désiré Doué

N'Golo Kanté and Kingsley Coman missed out alongside the injured Marcus Thuram.

Ibrahima Konaté came off at half-time last week with Dayot Upamecano set to to come into the starting side. Expect Deschamps to make some changes here.

Kylian Mbappé has scored 48 goals in 87 internationals.

Croatia Form

Croatia failed to win on the road in the Nations League, losing 2-1 in Portugal and 1-0 in Scotland. They conceded two late goals in a 3-3 draw in Poland.

Zlatko Dalic’s side won their opening two games at home, Luka Modric scoring in a 1-0 win against Poland with Igor Matanovic and Andrej Kramaric on target in a 2-1 victory against Scotland.

Josko Gvardiol equalised in a 1-1 draw against Portugal, ending the contest with 8-5 shots on target. The point was enough to see then finish second in Group 1.

Croatia beat France 2-0 in the quarter-final first leg last week. Andrej Kramaric saw an early penalty saved in Split, Ivan Perisic assisting Ante Budimir and scoring himself a minute after half-time.

Croatia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Dominik Livakovic, Dominik Kotarski, Ivica Ivusic
Defenders: Josip Stanisic, Marin Pongracic, Josko Gvardiol, Duje Caleta-Car, Josip Sutalo, Borna Sosa, Josip Juranovic
Midfielders: Nikola Moro, Mateo Kovacic, Luka Modric, Nikola Vlasic, Mario Pasalic, Martin Baturina, Toni Fruk, Kristijan Jakic, Petar Sucic
Forwards: Andrej Kramaric, Ante Budimir, Ivan Perisic, Franjo Ivanovic

Luka Sucic, Lovro Majer, Igor Matanovic and Bruno Petkovic missed out through injury. Martin Erlic, Marko Pjaca, Mislav Orsic and Marco Pasalic were in the preliminary squad.

Ivan Perisic has scored 34 international goals, Andrej Kramaric with 30 and Luka Modric with 27 goals.

Verdict

Croatia won 2-0 in the first leg and can expect an onslaught in France. I think the visitors can score here, but stopping Les Bleus will be a tough challenge in Paris.
