Germany vs Italy Preview

Germany beat Italy 2-1 in Milan and return home where they didn’t concede a goal in the group stage. I am sticking with the Germans in the Nations League, Tim Kleindienst to start and score first.

Germany Form

Germany went unbeaten in the Nations League group stage, winning all three home games without conceding a goal. They beat Hungary 5-0, Netherlands 1-0 and Bosnia-Herzegovina 7-0.

Die Mannschaft were unable to keep a clean sheet on the road, beginning with a 2-2 draw in the Netherlands. Deniz Undav scored twice in a 2-1 win at Bosnia & Herzegovina before a 1-1 draw in Hungary.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side came back in the quarter-final first leg, overcoming a 1-0 half-time deficit to win 2-1 in Italy. Tim Kleindienst came off the bench and took four minutes to score, Leon Goretzka with the winning goal in the 76th minute.

Germany Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Stefan Ortega
Defenders: Antonio Rüdiger, Robin Koch, Jonathan Tah, Joshua Kimmich, Nico Schlotterbeck, Yann Aurel Bisseck, Maximilian Mittelstädt, David Raum
Midfielders: Pascal Gross, Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala, Nadiem Amiri, Jamie Leweling, Angelo Stiller, Leroy Sané, Karim Adeyemi, Robert Andrich
Forwards: Jonathan Burkardt, Tim Kleindienst, Deniz Undav

Robin Gosens and Julian Brandt miss out with Marc-André ter Stegen, Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz injured.

Tim Kleindienst came off the bench in Italy to score his third goal in five internationals. The Borussia Mönchengladbach striker should start here.

Italy Form

Italy won their opening two games in the Nations League, both on the road. They overcame an early deficit to win 3-1 in France and beat Israel 2-0 in Budapest.

Luciano Spalletti’s side beat Israel 4-1 in Udine, either side of two encunters against Belgium. They came back to draw 2-2 in Rome, followed by a 1-0 victory in Brussels where Sandro Tonali scored the winning goal.

Qualification was assured before their final match, a 3-1 defeat to France in Milan.

Tonali scored in the 9th minute as Italy took the lead against Germany in the quarter-final first leg. They conceded twice in the second half on Thursday which gives them a mountain to climb in Dortmund.

Italy Squad & Team News

Verdict

Germany won 2-1 in Italy to give themselves a great chance to progress in the Nations League. Tim Kleindienst came off the bench to score in Milan, the striker to score again in Dortmund.
