Germany got past Italy in the Nations League play-offs in March. They fell behind in the first leg in Milan, second half goals to Tim Kleindienst and Leon Goretzka turning it around.

The Seleção went ahead twice in the second leg but it was 2-2 with time running out, Trincão scoring in the 86th minute to take it to extra time. Trincão scored again and Gonçalo Ramos wrapped it up to earn a 5-2 victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed an early penalty in Lisbon but scored Portugal’s second goal to make it 136 international goals.
