Germany host Spain in Group 4 of the UEFA Nations League on Thursday. Both nations are among the best in international football but are missing key players, will we see a winner in Stuttgart?

Germany Form

Germany qualified for the UEFA European Championship, finishing top of Group C, two points ahead of the Netherlands. Joachim Löw’s side lost 4-2 against the Netherlands in September before a 2-0 win in Northern Ireland.

Die Mannschaft drew 2-2 against Argentina in a friendly before winning their final three Euro qualifiers. Germany beat Estonia 3-0, Belarus 4-0 and Northern Ireland 6-1.

Michael Smith scored first in Frankfurt but the Northern Irish optimism didn’t last long. Serge Gnabry hit a hat-trick, Leon Goretzka bagged a brace with Julian Brandt scoring the sixth.

Germany Team News

Much of the Bayern Munich and Leipzig’s squads that competed in the UEFA Champions League have been rested. Manuel Neuer, Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry are all missing here.

Bayern duo Niklas Sule and Leroy Sane are in the squad, however. Joachim Low has called up Atalanta defender Robin Gosens, Gladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus and Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann for the first time.

With Nico Schulz injured, Gosens could start on Thursday. Timo Werner and Luca Waldschmidt are the strikers while Toni Kroos will be the midfield lynchpin.

La Roja drew 1-1 in Norway and Sweden before two convincing home wins. Spain beat Malta 7-0 and Romania were crushed 5-0 at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

It was another one sided victory in Madrid with Fabian Ruiz, Gerard Moreno (2) and Mikel Oyarzabal on target.

Adama Traore will join up with the squad if his second COVID-19 test returns negative but is unlikely to feature. Mikel Oyarzabal withdrew from the Spain squad after testing positive for COVID-19.
