Head to Head

England have a 6-3 advantage against Ireland in 17 meetings with eight draws. Ireland are unbeaten in four home matches against England, including three draws.

Ireland Form

Former Iceland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson was named as Ireland’s new boss in July. He replaces interim coach John O’Shea, who led Ireland to two losses, one draw and a win.

O’Shea oversaw a 0-0 draw with Belgium before a narrow 1-0 loss in Switzerland. Ireland responded with a 2-1 home triumph over Hungary in June.

The Boys in Green lost their second June friendly, falling to a 3-0 loss in Portugal. They were 1-0 down after 18 minutes, outplayed with 5-20 shots and 31% possession and conceded twice after half time.

Captain Séamus Coleman is likely to start after recovering from injury and playing for Everton on Saturday.

England Form

Gareth Southgate stepped down as England manager after leading the nation to back-to-back Euros finals. Under-21 boss Lee Carsley was appointed as interim manager in July.

The Three Lions were unconvincing on their way to the Euro 2024 final, winning two of seven matches. England beat Serbia 1-0 in their opener and drew four matches in a row before defeating the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-final.

Southgate’s team were second-best in the final against Spain and had just 34% possession. Cole Palmer cancelled out a Spanish opener in the second period but England let in the winner with four minutes left.
