Lithuania vs Cyprus Preview

Lithuania had horrible efficiency in the Nations League last season, bagging two goals in six games. Cyprus are struggled and scored four, so I am expecting goals to be at premium on Thursday in Kaunas.

  • Lithuania have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches.
  • Lithuania have seen under 1.5 goals in 3 of their last 5 matches.
  • Lithuania have seen under 1.5 goals in 2 of their last 4 matches against Cyprus.
  • Cyprus have failed to score in 4 of their last 6 matches (UEFA Nations League).

Head to Head

Cyprus have a 3-1 advantage against Lithuania in 4 matches.

They last met in November 2023, game being won by Cyprus 1-0.

Lithuania Form

Lithuania’s most recent appearances were in June in the Baltic Cup. They were victorious in the semi-finals against Latvia 2-0, Armandas Kucys breaking the deadlock in the 48th minute, Artur Dolzinkov finishing the job later.

The Yellow and Greens then lost to Estonia in the finals after a penalty shootout, regular time ending 1-1 with Giedrius Matulevviciuys finding a late equalizer.

Edgaras Jankauskas’ side finished last in their UEFA Nations League C group last season behind Turkey, Luxembourg and Faroe Islands, but defeated Gibraltar 2-0 on aggregate in the relegation playoffs to stay in the division.

Cyprus Form

Cyprus struggled in the previous edition of UEFA Nations League. They competed in League C and claimed five points in six games against Greece, Kosovo and Northern Ireland, ending last.

Their most recent appearances were in international friendlies in June, losing the first match to Moldova 3-2 despite having a 2-1 advantage for 70 minutes, Ioannis Pittas and Danilo Spoljaric on target.

Cyprus returned to winning ways a couple of days later against San Marino 4-1, Grigoris Kastanos being the man of the match scoring a brace.

Ioannis Pittas is the top scorer with 4 goals in 36 appearances.

Verdict

These two sides combined have scored just six goals in 12 UEFA Nations League games last season. I expect a low-scoring game in Lithuania, under 2.5 goals being the best bet.
