Netherlands host Italy in the UEFA Nations League in Amsterdam on Monday. Oranje beat Poland 1-0 at Johan Cruyff Arena on Friday, can they make it two in a row and consolidate top spot in Group 1?

Netherlands Form


Netherlands finished second in Group C to qualify for the European Championship. Oranje finished second, two points behind Germany after winning five of their last six matches.

Some of those victories included wins against Germany (4-2), Estonia (4-0, 5-0) and Northern Ireland (3-1). Ronald Koeman’s side were UEFA Nations League finalists, going down 1-0 to Portugal.

Ronald Koeman recently moved to Barcelona and was replaced Dwight Lodeweges. Lodeweges’ first match in charge was a 1-0 win against Poland in the Nations League.

The controlled the match with 64% possession and 14-2 shots, Hans Hateboer assisting Steven Bergwijn for the winning goal.

Italy qualified in style for the European Championship. Gli Azzurri finished top of Group J, 12 points ahead of Finland after winning all 10 matches.

Roberto Mancini’s side dominated a weak group including Finland, Liechtenstein, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Armenia. Italy scored 37 goals with 4 conceded.

Italy’s final qualifier was a thumping 9-1 win against Armenia in Palermo. Ciro Immobile (2), Nicolò Zaniolo (2), Nicolò Barella, Alessio Romagnoli, Jorginho, Riccardo Orsolini and Federico Chiesa were all on target in a demolition job.

The new Nations League campaign started with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Florence. They fell behind in the 57th minute but his back through Stefano Sensi 10 minutes later.

Nicolò Zaniolo, Ciro Immobile and Moise Kean came off the bench but a winner was elusive. Itay finished with 61% possession, 20-9 shots but 4-4 on target.

Juventus full back Mattia De Sciglio and winger Federico Bernardeschi are not in the squad.

Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli and PSG midfielder Marco Verratti are notable absentees alongside new Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Expect to see Ciro Immobile come in for Andrea Belotti and Nicolò Zaniolo to replace Federico Chiesa in the starting side. Giorgio Chiellini and Jorginho are another possibilities.
