Portugal vs Denmark Preview

Denmark beat Portugal 1-0 in the first leg last week, ending the contest with 9-2 shots on target. Portugal can score in Lisbon, but fixing their leaky defence could prove problematic with a short turnaround.

Portugal Form

Portugal won their opening three Nations League matches, beating Croatia, Scotland and Poland without keeping a clean sheet. Cristiano Ronaldo scored in all three victories.

The Selecão drew 0-0 in Scotland before returning home and thrashing Poland 5-1, Ronaldo scoring another two goals. They ended the group stage with a 1-1 draw in Croatia.

Roberto Martinez’s side suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat in Denmark in the quarter-final first leg. Diogo Costa saved a first half penalty and kept his team in the tie.

Denmark Form

Denmark started the Nations League in Copenhagen where they beat Switzerland and Serbia 2-0. They lost both legs against Spain either side of a 2-2 draw in Switzerland.

Kasper Schmeichel was man of the match in a 0-0 draw in Serbia, the point enough to preserve second spot in Group 4.

Brian Riemer’s side produced a solid performance to beat Portugal 2-1 in the quarter-finals last week. Christian Eriksen saw his penalty saved in the first half before Rasmus Hojlund finished off a slick move in the 78th minute.

Christian Eriksen has scored 43 goals in 141 internationals. Gustav Isaksen, Rasmus Hojlund and Jonas Wind all have eight goals each.

Verdict

Denmark are defending a 1-0 lead with Portugal producing a poor performance in Copenhagen. I can’t back the home team here, my money on BTTS in Lisbon.
