Portugal vs Netherlands Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Portugal host Netherlands at Porto’s Estádio Do Dragão in the first ever UEFA Nations League Final. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Switzerland and is set to be the difference maker once again.

Portugal Form & Team News

Portugal qualified for the UEFA Nations League Final after a 3-1 win against Switzerland in the semi-finals. Captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero for the Seleção with a hat-trick including two goals in the final minutes.

Ronaldo has scored three goals in his last three competitive games against Netherlands stretching back to the 2004 European Championship. Ronaldo is my tip in the anytime goalscorer market at 2.15 and 4.00 in the first goalscorer market at bet365.

Manager Fernando Santos selected Nélson Semedo at right back and started Bruno Fernandes and João Félix against Switzerland. 19-year-old Félix had a tough time and might start on the bench against Netherlands.

Pepe picked up an injury and will be out for months. José Fonte will step into central defence alongside Ruben Dias. Danilo Pereira returns from suspension and is likely to start on the bench as an emergency central defender if required.

Portugal have home advantage which could be an important factor against Netherlands. Portugal can be backed to win at 2.45 that will be attracting plenty of interest from punters.

Netherlands Form & Team News

The Netherlands reached the UEFA Nations League Final after a 3-1 extra time win against England. Matthijs de Ligt made an error and gave away a penalty that was converted by Marcus Rashford, but he redeemed himself by heading in a corner to send the match to extra time.

Two defensive howlers from England allowed Netherlands to score twice, Memphis Depay’s shot saved but Quincy Promes’ effort going in via Kyle Walker that made it 2-1. Both players were involved in their third goal, Depay picking up a loose pass and squaring to Promes who made no mistake from close range.

Managaer Ronald Koeman exploited England’s indecisiveness in defence and will look to put pressure on Portugal’s back four. Koeman could make some changes here with Donny van de Beek and Quincy Promes coming into the starting XI for Marten de Roon and Ryan Babel.

Netherlands are priced at 3.00 to beat Portugal and 3.20 to claim another draw and send the match to extra time.

Portugal vs Netherlands Head to Head

Poland have had the edge against Netherlands in competitive fixtures, winning the last three matches at the 2004 European Championship, 2006 World Cup and 2012 European Championship.

The last meeting was a friendly in March 2018 in Geneva, Netherlands recording a 3-0 win with Memphis Depay, Ryan Babel and Virgil van Dijk scoring the goals.

Portugal vs Netherlands Match Up

Portugal manager Fernando Santos experimented against Switzerland with João Félix starting the match. It was a big talking point but not many can overshadow Cristiano Ronaldo, the 34-year-old stealing the show once again and he will be a big danger against Netherlands.

Netherlands took advantage of England’s horror show in defence to run away with the win. Ronald Koeman’s side have been hard to beat since he took over but have found it hard to keep clean sheets away from home.
