Russia vs Sweden Match Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Russia and Sweden will continue their UEFA Nations League campaign with a Group 2 clash at the Kaliningrad Stadium on Thursday. The hosts are still carrying on their good form from the World Cup and should secure a win over the struggling Swedes.

Russia

Stanislav Cherchesov's men began their UEFA Nations League campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory away at Turkey back in September. They took an early lead through Denis Cheryshev and despite being pegged back before the break, Artem Dzyuba struck the winner in the second half.

The Russians are top of the group on three points, level with second place Turkey who have also claimed one win. They have been in great form since their impressive showing at the World Cup and are currently unbeaten in their last four matches.

Cherchesov has named 25 players for the two upcoming fixtures against Sweden and Turkey with Dzyuba, Cheryshev and Aleksandar Golovin all included. All three men have been pivotal to Russia's recent good form and should start on Thursday.

Sweden

Sweden suffered defeat in their opening fixture of the UEFA Nations League as they were beaten at home by Turkey. They took a two-goal lead through Isaac Thelin and Viktor Claesson but suffered a defensive collapse in the second half to lose 3-2.

The Swedes have looked off colour since losing to England at the World Cup in Russia. They have lost their last two matches and are currently bottom of their UNL group with no points after the opening round of matches.

Manager Janne Andersson has kept faith with much of the squad that lost the two matches in September. Marcus Berg and Thelin are expected to lead the line for the Swedes but both men have been poor in their recent appearances for the team.

Head-to-Head

There have been eight previous matches involving Russia and Sweden with the Scandinavian nation just edging the head-to-head by three wins to two. Both teams faced each other twice during the qualifiers for Euro 2016 with the Russians earning a 1-1 draw in Solna before claiming a 1-0 victory at home in the second leg.

Match-Up

Russia have a good mix in attack with the power and physicality of Dzyuba alongside the pace and trickery of Golovin and Cheryshev. All three men have shown great form in their last few matches and should get the better of Andreas Granqvist and Victor Lindelof.

The Swedes can also be potent in attack on their day with Emil Forsberg and Marcus Berg tasked with providing the goals. They will be confident of getting past Georgi Dhzikiya and Andrei Semenov in the Russian defence.
