Slovakia vs Sweden Predictions

A competitive contest should see plenty of chances at both ends.

BTTS is my only choice for Friday's Group 1 Nations League clash in Bratislava.

  • Slovakia have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 5 matches
  • Slovakia have seen BTTS in 2 of their last 3 home matches (Nations League)
  • Sweden have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 away matches
  • Sweden have seen BTTS in 7 of their last 10 matches (Nations League)

Head to Head

Slovakia and Sweden will meet for the eighth time on Friday. Sweden remain unbeaten from seven previous encounters, with four wins and three draws collected since their first meeting in 1996.

Slovakia Form

Slovakia face their third fixture in League C, Group 1 in high spirits after successive Nations League victories in September. The Slovenskí Sokoli edged to a 1-0 road win in Estonia before a straight-forward 2-0 victory against Azerbaijan in Bratislava.

A strong performance at Euro 2024 saw Slovakia reach the knockout phase before a heart-breaking elimination against England.

The Slovaks have struggled in previous Nations League ties, however, with last month's victory against Azerbaijan breaking a three-game winless run in home ties.

Slovakia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Martin Dúbravka, Marek Rodák, Henrich Ravas
Defenders: Peter Pekarík, Milan Škriniar, Dávid Hancko, Norbert Gyömbér, Ľubomír Šatka, Denis Vavro, Adam Obert, Michal Tomič, Samuel Kozlovský
Midfielders: Juraj Kucka, Ondrej Duda, Stanislav Lobotka, Matúš Bero, László Bénes, Tomáš Rigo, Peter Pokorný
Forwards: Róbert Boženík, Lukáš Haraslín, Tomáš Suslov, David Strelec, Dávid Ďuriš, Ľubomír Tupta, Leo Sauer

Head coach Francesco Calzona named a 26-man group for the upcoming Nations League contests against Sweden and Azerbaijan.

Uncapped 23-year-old midfielder Peter Pokorný received his first international call-up; however, there is no place for experienced forward Robert Mak.

Sweden Form

Sweden arrive in Bratislava after picking up back-to-back competitive victories for the first time in nearly three years last month. Following an excellent 3-1 win in Azerbaijan, Jon Dahl Tomasson's side eased to a 3-0 success against Estonia in Solna.

Inconsistency has been a major issue for Sweden in recent years. Friday's hosts won eight but lost six of their last 15 internationals over the past 16 months.

On the road, the Swedes have slipped to defeat in three of their last four away fixtures, but have managed to find the net in nine of their last 11 on their travels.

Sweden Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Jacob Widell Zetterström, Viktor Johansson, Kristoffer Nordfeldt
Defenders: Emil Krafth, Victor Lindelöf, Isak Hien, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Ludwig Augustinsson, Ken Sema, Alex Douglas, Daniel Svensson
Midfielders: Lucas Bergvall, Jesper Karlström, Yasin Ayari, Anton Salétros, Simon Olsson, Hugo Larsson, Hugo Bolin
Forwards: Sebastian Nanasi, Anthony Elanga, Niclas Eliasson, Viktor Gyökeres, Dejan Kulusevski

Head coach Tomasson has a 23-man squad available ahead of the trip to Slovakia on Friday. In-form Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres is a near-cert to lead the Swede's attack.

Injured Newcastle forward Alexander Isak is a notable absentee from the selection.

Verdict

Both teams can score in a likely competitive Nations League tie on Friday.

BTTS is my only choice at the Štadión Tehelné pole.
