2020 BMW Championship Golf Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions
The 2020 BMW Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour and is the second of three FedEx Cup playoff events. The tournament is limited to the top 70 players on the PGA Tour’s points list following The Northern Trust - the first FedEx Cup event, which takes place the previous week.
The FedEx Cup trophy is awarded to the player at the top of the PGA Tour’s points list at the end of the season, with the winner pocketing $15 million. Following the 2020 BMW Championship, the field is reduced to the top 30 players for the final playoff event at the Tour Championship, after which the FedEx Cup champion is confirmed.

When is the 2020 BMW Championship Golf?
The 2020 BMW Championship will be held from 20-23 August, 2020.
BMW Championship Golf History
The BMW Championship started in 2007 in the first year of the FedEx Cup playoffs. It has always been the penultimate tournament of the FedEx Cup, which in 2019 was reduced from four to three events.
Tiger Woods won the inaugural BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois and won his second title at the same venue two years later in 2009.
Prior to the launch of the FedEx Cup and the BMW Championship, it was the Western Open, which was first played in 1899 at Glen View Golf Club in Illinois and run by the Western Golf Association – at the time a rival of the United States Golf Association.
From the first tournament up to 1961, the Western Open was played in various locations across the Midwest, before settling in the Chicago metropolitan area from 1962.
One of the most remarkable incidents in the tournament’s history occurred in 1975 when Lee Trevino and Jerry Heard were struck by lightning on the 13th green.
BMW Championship Golf Results
Take some time research past results from the BMW Championship and the Western Open to gain an insight as to which players have performed well at the tournament. Even though the BMW Championship is played at a new venue, the course setup and conditions will be similar to previous tournaments, so past success could transfer to this year’s event.
By evaluating past performances, it can help you with your pre-tournament betting decisions and can give you an advantage when choosing players to back in the outright winner market, as well as other markets like Top 10 or Top 20 finishes.

BMW Championship Golf Multiple Winners
Only two players have won the BMW Championship more than once since it began in 2007. Tiger Woods (2007 and 2009) was the first to achieve the feat, before Dustin Johnson (2010 and 2016) followed suit.
Who won the 2019 BMW Championship?
The 2019 BMW Championship was won by Justin Thomas with a 25-under par score of 263. Thomas won the title by 3 strokes from Patrick Cantlay at Medinah Country Club in Illinois and earned $1,665,000 prize money.
BMW Championship Golf Qualification
The BMW Championship is only open to the top 70 players on the PGA Tour points list. The final chance for players to make it into the top 20 takes place the previous week at The Northern Trust – the first of the three FedEx Cup playoff tournaments – where the top 125 players take part.
After the BMW Championship, only the top 30 players continue on to the Tour Championship, after which the FedEx Cup champion is crowned.
