2019 BMW Championship Golf Preview, Prediction, Betting Tips & Live Stream

The top 70 golfers on the PGA Tour’s points list make their way to Medinah Country Club for the 2019 BMW Championship – the second of three FedEx Cup playoff events. Ahead of the first tee shot on Thursday we profile the top contenders, select a few outsiders, and provide our best betting tips for the tournament.

2019 BMW Championship Betting Odds

Below are the top 10 contenders at the 2019 BMW Championship based on their win outright odds. All odds are from bet365 and are correct on 13 August, 2019.

  • Rory McIlroy (8.50)
  • Brooks Koepka (9.00)
  • Jon Rahm (11.00)
  • Justin Thomas (15.00)
  • Dustin Johnson (15.00)
  • Justin Rose (17.00)
  • Patrick Cantlay (23.00)
  • Adam Scott (26.00)
  • Webb Simpson (23.00)
  • Patrick Reed (23.00)

2019 BMW Championship Top Contenders

Rory McIlroy (8.50)

Rory McIlroy continued his superbly consistent season with a tied-sixth last time out at The Northern Trust – the first of the FedEx Cup playoff events. That made it 12 top-10s – including two titles – from the 16 tournaments he has played this PGA Tour campaign. Utterly remarkable.

Third in the FedEx Cup standings, McIlroy returns to a scene with many happy memories when, in 2012, he was central to Europe’s dramatic Ryder Cup win. We expect the Northern Irishman to have a successful tournament.

Brooks Koepka (9.00)

Brooks Koepka’s dominance at the majors is well documented, but the World No. 1 and FedEx Cup leader found himself in the non-majors winners’ circle two events ago when he won the WGC St Jude Invitational. A tied-30th last time out at The Northern Trust was more reflective of his form outside the big four tournaments:

Koepka has only finished in the top-20 twice in PGA Tour events in 2019. Motivation will likely not be a problem at Medinah this week as he seeks to retain top position, but at these odds, the American does not appear to be great value.

Jon Rahm (11.00)

Jon Rahm is one of the hottest golfers worldwide at present, having gone tied-third, seventh, tied-11th, first, tied-second, and tied-third in his past six events. His most recent outing was the tied-third at The Northern Trust, which was the Spaniard’s sixth top-11 finish from his first nine FedEx Cup playoff events. Given Rahm’s form and confidence levels, a top-10 finish at 2.00 looks very enticing.

Justin Thomas (15.00)

Justin Thomas came in for us last week when we backed the American for a top-20 finish at The Northern Trust. After a summer disrupted by a wrist injury, Thomas has rounded into form for the PGA Tour’s climax and has gone tied-11th, tied-12th, tied-11th in his last three events. A tilt at a title should come soon and could happen this week at the BMW Championship.

Dustin Johnson (15.00)

After 36 holes of The Northern Trust last week, our tip to ignore Dustin Johnson looked set to backfire. However, a poor weekend saw the World No. 2 finish tied-24th, which follows a tied-20th at the WGC St Jude and a tied-51st at the British Open. Given the American’s relatively short odds, Johnson is worth ignoring once again, despite being a two-time winner of this event.

2019 BMW Championship Outsiders

Justin Rose (17.00)

Justin Rose has not finished outside the top 20 in any of his past five events and is another player who will return to Medinah attempting to emulate his 2012 heroics. The World No. 4 has combined his elite-level ball striking with remarkable putting improvements this season (Rose is second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: putting).

Adam Scott (26.00)

Adam Scott is another player to deliver for us last week at The Northern Trust when he finished as the top-placed Australian. It wasn’t even a contest as Scott finished solo fifth to continue his surge in form, which now comprises four top-10 finishes in his past six tournaments.

Scott needs only to place higher than two players at the BMW Championship to again be the top Australian. Marc Leishman has missed two of his past three cuts, while Jason Day parted ways with caddie Steve Williams days before the tournament. We fancy Scott to repeat the trick.

Webb Simpson (23.00)

Webb Simpson is enjoying a fine run of form for these last few months of the season, boasting three runner-up finishes in his past six tournaments and a further two top-20s, including a tied-18th last week at The Northern Trust. The American looks good for another solid week at the BMW Championship.

Tommy Fleetwood (29.00)

Tommy Fleetwood struggled to really get going last week at The Northern Trust, placing tied-43rd, but it was his worst worldwide showing in two months, which has included a comfortable runner-up at the British Open and a tied-fourth at WGC St Jude. We expect the Englishman to return to form this week at the BMW Championship.

Louis Oosthuizen (36.00)

Louis Oosthuizen arrives at the BMW Championship off the back of three successive top-20 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a tied-sixth at The Northern Trust. The South African also claimed a tied-seventh at the US Open in June and has the form to contend in the top 20 at Medinah.

2019 BMW Championship Betting Odds

Rory McIlroy is due a big title soon and we fancy him to make it happen at the BMW Championship this week. McIlroy is in sparkling form and has enjoyed success at this course in the past. We also expect Jon Rahm and Adam Scott to deliver for us at Medinah.
