The first European Tour event following the British Open takes place in Prague this week at the 2019 D+D Real Czech Masters. With many of the world’s leading players in action at the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, it is an open field at the Albatross Golf Resort. Before the first tee shot is hit on Thursday, we evaluate the contenders and select our best bets for the tournament.

  • Thomas Pieters (17.00)
  • Robert MacIntyre (19.00)

  • Gavin Green (29.00)
  • Julian Suri (31.00)

2019 D+D Real Czech Masters Top Contenders

Eddie Pepperell (12.00)

Eddie Pepperell enters the 2019 D+D Real Czech Masters as the tournament favourite and the highest-ranked player in the field. The Englishman also earns his place at the top of the odds thanks to his fine record at the Albatross course: having played every event since its inception, Pepperell’s record reads fifth-22nd-missed cut-fifth-ninth. He should be a contender once again this year.

Bernd Wiesberger (13.00)

Bernd Wiesberger is one of the form players heading to the D+D Real Czech Masters following his win at the Scottish Open and tied-second the week prior at the Irish Open. The Austrian’s most recent outing was a tied-32nd at the British Open.

Based on course history, you might consider avoiding Wiesberger, considering he missed the cut in his only previous visit. However, that was five years ago, and we expect him to be in the mix.

Erik van Rooyen (15.00)

Erik van Rooyen heads into the D+D Real Czech Masters in solid form following successive top-20 finishes at the British Open and Scottish Open. The South African also produced his best finish at a major tournament this season when he placed tied-eighth at the PGA Championship

Van Rooyen finished 34th at the Czech Masters in his only other visit two years ago and he is in far better form this time round.

Lee Westwood (15.00)

Lee Westwood produced his best result of the season in his last outing when he finished tied-fourth at the British Open three years. The Englishman – a 12-time winner on the European Tour – is familiar with the Czech Masters having played four of the five tournaments, placing ninth in 2017. If he can carry his form over from the British Open, then Westwood could clinch his first title of the season.

Thomas Pieters (17.00)

Tipped to be a future world-beater just a few years ago, it has been another ordinary season for the talented Thomas Pieters, who has claimed just four top-20 finishes this year. He is a former champion at the Czech Masters, having won the tournament in 2015, but given his form, he is worth ignoring at these odds.

2019 D+D Real Czech Masters Outsiders

Andrea Pavan (21.00)

Andrea Pavan is the defending Czech Masters champion when last year he set new tournament records for lowest overall score (266) and lowest to par (-22) to win the tournament. The Italian approaches his title defence in mixed form, combining a win at the BMW International and a tied-fourth at the Scottish Open with three missed cuts in his past five events.

He will take great confidence from his performance 12 months ago and should be among the contenders.

Gavin Green (29.00)

Our standout pick of the outsiders at the 2019 D+D Real Czech Masters, Gavin Green has claimed three top-10 finishes in his past five European Tour events and finished tied-third at the 2018 Czech Masters. The Malaysian has the form and course history to shine at the Albatross Golf Resort this week.

Lee Slattery (45.00)

Lee Slattery has been one of the most consistent performers at the D+D Real Czech Masters in recent years, finishing runner-up in 2017 and following that with a tied-fourth last year. After a poor start to the season which comprised six straight missed cuts, Slattery is rounding into form with a tied-ninth at the Scottish Open his most recent result. We fancy the Englishman to perform well again in Prague.

2019 D+D Real Czech Masters Key Stats

  • All five past champions are in the field for the 2019 D+D Real Czech Masters: Andrea Pavan (2018), Haydn Porteous (2017), Paul Peterson (2016), Thomas Pieters (2015), and Jamie Donaldson (2014).
  • The Czech Masters is yet to have two winners from the same country. It is also yet to have a repeat winner.
  • At 7,467 yards, the Albatross Golf Resort course is long and should favour big-hitters, although driving accuracy has not been a key attribute in the past.

2019 D+D Real Czech Masters Betting Odds

An open field gives us the opportunity to take advantage of longer odds, and we are backing tournament favourite Eddie Pepperell to get the win. He is the best player in the field and has a good record at the Czech Masters. Elsewhere, we like the look of Gavin Green to claim a top-20 finish.

A disappointing outing from Eddie Pepperell, who missed the halfway cut, while Gavin Green (T58) slid down the leaderboard after a bright start.
