Staged for the first time at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, this year's Scottish Open is headlined by World No. 3 Rory McIlroy.

2019 Scottish Open Top Contenders

Rory McIlroy (7.00)

No player will be under more scrutiny over the next couple of weeks than Rory McIlroy. The World No. 3 is the early favourite to win the 2019 British Open, his 10.00 odds with bet365 to win outright no doubt a refelction on the fact Royal Portrush is his home course.

The Northern Irishman is also favourite to win this week's Scottish Open, where he is returning after nearly a month following a tied-ninth at the US Open. McIlroy is one of the finest links players in the world, and after some rest, should be fresh for a tilt at the title.

Rickie Fowler (15.00)

Rickie Fowler has always spoken of his fondness for links golf, and his results on these courses speak for themselves. The American won the Scottish Open in 2015 when it was held at Gullane, so he should thrive at a similar course setup at the Renaissance. Fowler has also posted two top-10s at the British Open, and while he is not in sparkling form, he will expect to do well this week when he can display his creativity and shot-making abilities.

Matt Kuchar (19.00)

Leader of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings, Matt Kuchar is enjoying the most successful season of his long career. The 41-year-old has posted four top-10 finishes in his past seven events and arrives at the 2019 Scottish Open with fine links pedigree. Kuchar was runner-up at the 2017 British Open at Royal Birkdale and was also runner-up to Fowler at the 2015 Scottish Open. Kuchar should be contending at the top of the leaderboard this week.

Henrik Stenson

Henrik Stenson (19.00)

Henrik Stenson is playing himself into form at just the right time following a rather mediocre spell. The Swede, who won the 2016 British Open in record-breaking fashion on the links of Royal Troon, enters the 2019 Scottish Open following successive top-10s, at the Canadian Open and US Open. The Renaissance Club should be set up well for his game, where Stenson's supreme iron play can shine.

Justin Thomas (19.00)

After a fine start to the season that comprised five top-10 finishes in his first eight events, Justin Thomas was derailed by a wrist injury, from which he is still finding his form. Since returning in June, Thomas has missed two cuts in four events, and considering he is yet to fully grasp links golf, his pre-tournament odds are quite surprising. On form, the American is one of the most formidable players in the world, but for now he is worth avoiding.

2019 Scottish Open Outsiders

Rafa Cabrera Bello (26.00)

Rafa Cabrera Bello is bang in form following a tied-third at the BMW International and tied-fourth at the Irish Open, while the Spaniard arrives at the Scottish Open as a former champion, winning the 2017 title at Dundonald. He clearly enjoys the conditions and course setup, and can continue his good form.

Eddie Pepperell

Eddie Pepperell (29.00)

Eddie Pepperell is in good form having finished fourth at the Irish Open last week, while he was runner-up at the Scottish Open last year behind Brandon Stone. Pepperell also finished tied-8th at the British Open last year at one of the world's toughest links courses, Carnoustie. He will be confident of a good showing this week.

Martin Kaymer (31.00)

Martin Kaymer has played well since the start of May, posting three top-10 finishes across the PGA and European Tour. Last week, the German finished tied-ninth at the Irish Open, suggesting he has adapted to the conditions quickly. Kaymer is also a former Scottish Open champion having won the tournament in 2009, so knows what it takes to suceed at this event.

Andy Sullivan (41.00)

Andy Sullivan is starting to display the sort of form that saw him enter the world's top 50 a couple of years ago, and he enters the Scottish Open following a tied-second at the Irish Open. Given his generous odds, Sullivan is worth considering for a high finish.

Mike Lorenzo-Vera (41.00)

Mike Lorenzo-Vera is enjoying an impressively consistent season on the European Tour, particularly in the past few weeks. The Frenchman finished tied-2nd at the Andalusia Masters and tied-ninth last time out at the Irish Open. Those results came after a tied-fith at the Volvo Open and tied-16th at the US PGA Championship. Given his fine form, Lorenzo-Vera is worth considering for a high finish.
